    Anodizing 80% lower

Recently finished machining an 80% lower receiver and need to have it anodized. Anybody have any suggestions on where I can get this lower anodized? Type III hard coat. Have a SN engraved on the lower, a catchy insignia on the mag well, and humorous markings on the selector switch, but no "manufacturer" name. Contacted US Anodizing, but believe they will take issue with my not having my name on the receiver as the manufacturer and the receiver being shipped to them from out of state. Once the fine people at US Anodizing see California on the return address, there will be in increased level of scrutiny. I checked with 3 local FFL's on this, and received answers ranging from "It's not a problem" to "Swat teams will be kicking down my door at 2 am."

So you did not engrave it with proper info as this is your personal firearm. If you ever sell it you will have to add more engraving. It has to be anodized in your presence or the anodizer needs to have an ffl to log in. Use search function others have asked same question.

      Cerakote or duracoat.

I've heard that cerakote is more durable.

      Lots of DIY videos available.

Bonus, almost any color you want!
      Sorry, not sorry.

Dear autocorrect, I'm really getting tired of your shirt!

I've read that cerakote is only paint. it won't make it more durable. anodizing is waaay more durable. it actually seeps into the aluminum. the anodizing process hardens the aluminum.

anodizing, you can also chose different colors. the actual ano is clear, most people to go with flat black.

        my preference is for anodizing.

Sorry, I meant that cerakote was more durable than duracoat.

And yes cerakote is a type of paint.

And yes anodizing is a very hardy finish.

Should not be a problem as far as I am aware. They can log it as NSN. Contrary to what some would lead you to believe, lots of legitimate NSN weapons are out there. Don't buy into that "ghost gun" BS.

Can a non ffl accept a firearm for anodizing? That is the question. An 80% ar lower completed is a firearm. BTW I said nothing nor has anyone else about ghost gun. I merely pointed out he has a serial number on it for his own use .

I just buy my 80 percent colored the way I wanna be for finishing.
But yes you risk a chance of scratching.
I've done it with no issues in a couple that have tiny little where spots on them lol it's meant to be used not a safe queen lol
