That's a whole lot of questions all rolled together. However there are people here way more qualified to answer than me.

Have some patience as they are probably out shootin or sleepin right now. But you came to the right place for answers

If the person you know actually lives in California, did buy guns in Nevada and bring them back to California, it's likely he committed a couple Federal crimes.

If that seems true, I would recommend that you stay far, far away from him and the guns.

Prime example of why private party sellers need to at least verify the person they are selling to is a resident of the state they are located.

I wouldn't go near that one. That is assuming these are not C&R guns and that he does not have an FFL03.

Edit: Just read that he never registered them. In that case, even if the above were true then he would still be in hot water for not registering them when he came back.

Did you read the linked sticky?

The acts you describe this person as doing would be Federal felonies. He may not have been a felon before he went to Nevada, but he would be one now.

The question you must answer for yourself is, if the behaviors you describe were as you say, do you want to be associated in any way with the guns?

(This, BTW, is an entirely separate question from whether that Federal law makes any sense. I don't think it does, but folks go to jail anyway.)

The problem you are facing is that if you *know* that the guns are not obtained legally, you are in a similar position as someone who buys stolen goods - the knowledge and intent make a difference when it comes to getting charged, but you will lose the illegal goods.

In case of guns remember that anything drugs and anything illegal simply DOES NOT MIX with gun owners. EVER! If you ever suspect an illegal activity run away as far as you can if you want to be able to own guns legally in the future.

Yeah I'd stay away from this too. I have a funny feeling if you agreed to buy them he'd try to talk you into not going to an FFL as well.

If the state or Feds find out that he purchased handguns in Nevada without having them shipped to an FFL here in California he will be a felon. As others have said, stay away.

                              It's a trap.

I don't know whose trap it is, but it's definitely a trap.
