Any gun-related advantages to being a security guard?

What gun-related advantages are there to getting a guard card in CA?

Shopping in police supply stores? Ability to take armorer's classes? Etc.

Do you have to be hired by a company to be a guard before you can take advantage of anything?

the only thing i know of is that you don't need an HSC to purchase a firearm, as long as you have a armed guard permit

my son has a valid armed guard permit, even though he isn't currently working as one...i just encourage him to keep it valid, just in case, so he does the requalification every 6 months

Exempt from HSC(must have exposed firearms permit also), guard card/exposed firearms permit can be used as secondary form of ID, exempt from thumb print and photo copy of ID(at least for Sacramento. Must have exposed firearms permit also). That's pretty much it. No special privileges like LEO(ie. off roster purchase, standard/high cap mags, etc....)

No need to be hired. As long as you have the permits you're good to go. Even though it's not really worth it just for the above reasons. Especially when you have to pay to get re-qualified 2 times a year(for exposed firearms permit) and pay like $140 to renew both every 2 years.
