Issue with a reputable HK vendor

I purchased a PTR91 from a Calgunner earlier this year, and I am getting tire of having my brass banged up by the ejection port. So, I decided to purchase a original HK port buffer from a reputable HK vendor. My port buffer purchase turned into a $300 purchase (gotta buy in bulk to save on shipping ).

All is well with the online purchase and shipping. However, when the box arrived, I noticed a fist size tear on the box, but nothing seem to leak out. As I was doing inventory of the items I ordered, I noticed everything arrived as ordered except the port buffer!

I immediate contact the vendor, they they replied saying this is a inventoried item and their count on the port buffer is correct. This is turning into a he said she said situation. My question is how can I proceed from here?

Have you filed a claim with the shipper, note the damaged box, take photo's of the damage? I would have started with the shipper possibly through the seller as they are the ones who choose the shipping company.

Unfortunately, since the box was taped so well, I opened the box by enlarging the tear.

I still have the box, the packaging, and all arrived ordered items.

you are screwed...having no proof whatsoever of what you say

your best bet is to ask for a refund and leave negative feedback if you do not get it....sometimes in order to have negative feedback removed a retailer will make things right...or, they may not care at all
