    Flying with 80% lower build

Hi everyone. Sorry, I know the answer to this HAS to be on this site somewhere, but I couldn't find it after several searches.

Anyways, what's the status on flying with an 80 built rifle?

I'll be driving to Oregon with a friend and flying back and thought that that would be safer than if he got pulled over with it in his possession since he's not really up on many things gun/legal related.

How would TSA know it's an 80% and why would they care?

Yup. Once you work on it it's a firearm like any other. Would probably get less resistance if it has standard manufacturer markings.

I wouldn't take the chance simply because of theft.

Needs to be unloaded and in a locked hardside container.

Firearm must be declared at the ticket counter.

TSA will inspect it to ensure it is unloaded.

Do not use TSA approved locks to lock the hardside container. You must retain possession of the key/combo to the locks.

Thanks guys. I'm aware of the standard procedures for flying with a firearm in general.
I'm more concerned about the lack of markings.

TSA doesn't inspect your markings. They generally don't touch or handle a firearm.

If they ask, tell them the truth. Its a legal home built firearm using BATFE approved parts. Its when people lie and make up **** where they get in trouble. If you are worried about it print off the BATFE relevant page and tell the TSA to verify the information using their own computers.

The fact is if they have a problem with it...they will have a problem with it. You making stuff up in an attempt to slide by will only make it worse. So never try this with a Federal Agency. I am sure you realized this, I was just commenting for the crowd.
