If your punching holes through AR500 with 855 you did not get AR500. I shot ours multiple times with 7.62x54r and there are like 5 little divits in the plate that's about it

Might want to turn the mount to the 2 side of the wood (50%) less chance you'll hit it compared to the 4 side.

Unfortunately the mount doesn't allow for it to mount 90* around. Makes sense though.

        Looks good.

The springs wont reduce splatter in any significant manner, any bullet hitting a plate is going to splat. They will absorb some impact and may change the angle of reflection some.

        Hollow/soft points are fine.

Bolts will hold up to handgun ammo indefinitely. Centerfire rounds will eventually hit em and bust them up. A good AR500 will hold up to mild steel core no problem

The wood will slowly acquire bits of jackets and lead. It will take some time to wear out the 2x4's.

Ive never tried it, but im thinking a heavier (18 gauge?) steel stud 2x4 might be a good idea for this type of setup

Bobcat Steel. Stand, mount and plates with shipping were $374.

Well, we but about 400 rounds into each one today. A mix of 9mm, 40s&w, 45acp, 12ga bird shot at about 10yrds. AR's and AK's pounding one at 100yrds. The steel barely shows dings. The spatter at close range was all directed down. It beat the hell out of the 2x4's.
Only problem was the 100yrd target, the nuts backed off the bolts and the plate fell off. But that was after at least 3-400 hits. Had a great time. Can't wait to do it again.

Once you start shooting steel, its hard to go back to paper!

Try adding some split washers. This has helped my plate screws from backing off for the most part, but you will likely have to tighten them after a day of fun.

I had split washers, but I don't think the nuts were tight enough to get a good dig from the split. If I tighten too much then the springs collapse too much. I'll just use a jam nut on top of the other nut.
Excited to get out with just me and the steel. Practice will be even more fun now.

Where did you shoot Mr. Denton? I have a lot of steel and find it difficult to use them at some ranges.

                      Setting up Steel

I shoot out near Lake Mathews. Not far from the Corona Sportsmans Club.
There's a few spots to shoot but I don't think they'll be there long. Too many A**holes leave all their crap behind. The few times I've gone there I always take a few giant trash bags of junk home with me. Trying to do my part I guess. Hope to be a member in the club soon so I can shoot in a nice place.

Nope. All I did was the 2x4's, springs and hardware.

Yup. Nylon lock nuts are pretty much required.

Here's some pics of the targets after the festivities.

                                Pistol target

                                Rifle target

I see some some tiny little dents in the rifle target. One of the guys was shooting a Mosin Nagant (sp) no idea what caliber it is, but I'm thinking that's what made the dings.
