Quote for the day:"..the mind is the weapon and the hand only its extention. Discipline your mind!" Master Hao, Chenrezi monastery, Valley of the Sun -
I remember when I was a child my dad would name all of our cars the Grey Goose or blue bessie or names like that that involved in their color.
but it was just for us kids to like and enjoy our cars more I think.
and on the last thread when this was brought up I said the truth...
I haven't named my guns, yet.
which might of been good because in a few emergencies,I've had to sell a couple of guns.
my other thought then was that if you have a wife or an adult enough family it may be smart and extra extra cautious by having a code name for your home defense gun like Betsy or the "Red Label scotch"
so that in the un likelihood that you have some drunk home invader or drugged out man kick in the door to your house...
while you might have to deal with him at the door maybe even physically but definitely at least trying to talk him away first. ( or a scenario like this in some way.)
you could turn to your wife or family and say something like "go wake up Betsy" or go get this man a drink of Red Label Scotch whisky or I need a drink of Red Label scotch NOW!
which may put him in a different state than if you yell to your family member "go get me my gun!"
for sure that will put him in the attack mode. (punching, stabby maybe he has a gun that he hasn't shown but you.) I mean that "go get me my gun" statement may also make him run away but it clearly states that you don't have your gun ready yet.
just something to think about.
not necessarily my best idea and I know it may sound a little bit on the paranoid side, I can't help it I was a boy scout.Comment

I've only named one. it's my Steyr M95 (8X56r cal):
I call it the A * * Kicker for good reason, (if you've owned one or shot one - you know what I mean) light gun + big round = A * * Kicker
That's one gun I will NEVER shoot w/o a recoil pad - why?
Because I like my shoulder, I'm kind of attached to it!

I don't name any inanimate object. This thread did remind me of this for some reason.

The only one I gave a proper name to was my Mosin "Vasilisa". The others I refer to by model name when I have to.Originally posted by DRHI think Claire Wolf said it best as "America is at that awkward stage. Have you looked around?

I don't name my weapons...
...other than calling them by their maker and/or model name.
Cars, sometimes. Boats, sailboats definitely, obviously female names...power boats, never.
When I see guns named with female names and/or "my girls", I normally think of basement dwellers with no female relationships other than what they fap to on pron sites.

I have named my AR's just so its easier to refer to them versus saying "the 16" carbine with the EOTech, or the 20" DMR with the camo and bipod.." etc
I simply named them by the rollmarks on the lowers, Andy (Anderson), JD (duh), Danny(DD) etc. All other guns get called by their model since I dont have any other duplicates.Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friendsComment

Not really, mainly 9mm , AR, AK, shotgun etc. Although I do refer to one as a hooker pistol

The manufacturers give them the only names they need.Comment

I don't see the need to name my guns, although I have a rather small collection so I don't have much need to quickly reference which gun I'm talking about.
Maybe if I had more duplicates of the same type firearms I would think about giving them nicknames, but I don't imagine they would be elaborate (AR 1, AR 2, AR 3, etc)"Far and away the best prize life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." - Theodore Roosevelt
