    Jury Questioning

My girlfriend had jury duty the other day and made it all of the way into the courtroom and was in jury selection for a specific case. The judge asked some specific and for me, troubling questions. She told me the following of the judges questions: (Text message)
"If you've ever been a victim of a crime, do you know anyone who has convicted a crime, do you own and guns, what kind and what's your purpose for owning them and are you a part of the nra, how do you feel about people owning guns, do you know any police officers. And if you answer yes to anything they ask you to elaborate. Idk I understand why they ask these questions"
She had nothing to worry about for these questions. However, if I were in her position and asked, what would I be obligated by law to say? (Of course not feeling comfortable disclosing such information)

You would be obligated to answer truthfully. You do understand why they are asking, right?
My posts may contain general information related to the law, however, THEY ARE NOT LEGAL ADVICE AND I AM NOT A LAWYER. I recommend you consult a lawyer if you want legal advice. I understand truthfully, but could you decline to answer details? I understand what jury selection would do for lawyers and their case but am not aware of why the judge would ask..

The judge has an obligation to ensure an impartial jury. The right to such on the part of the defendant is greater than any right to privacy you might have. You must completely and truthfully answer all questions.

Okay that makes sense, I guess I'm just weary of disclosing specifics to people. Thank you for the quick response

And this thread is why I never "volunteer" for jury duty. My personal business is none of their business. And if I don't answer? I go to jail? Eff the court system.

You can always object to the question and to conduct the standard Q&A in chambers.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

In some cases, they actually ARE looking for jurors who have a knowledge of firearms. I was on a case where this was true a few years ago.

                        Always answer truthfully.

I have been 4 times, never chosen, The questions are geared toward what the case involves; guns, robbery, DUI, etc. You raise your right hand and swear to answer all questions truthfully prior to the jury selection process. Whether you want to actually be truthful is up to you.

Those are intellegence tests. If you are selected to serve, you failed.

When the questions become that pointed and specific, it's because there are elements of the case that somehow involve those items. The answers are supposed to reveal your position on the topic, and the Defense and DA will deicde to strike you form the panel if your beliefs are contrary to their interests.

The last time I went in, the DA totally wanted me on the panel, but the defense excused me before I even made it into the seat in the jury box.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.
