Can a friend sell a old unregistered 22 for me?

I have a old 22 Marlin at my parents house in SoCal. Had it for a long time. Like 7 years. Can I have a friend sell it at the FFL via PPT for me? I do not want to go all the way down there for $100.00 dollars.

The registered/not registered thing does not matter here.

Is it likely that would be detected? No.

Is it legal? Well, he doesn't own it. Can he legally convey property he does not own? Properly handled, he would have a limited power of attorney from you to accomplish the sale.
