    Airsoft in Simi Valley

    hey

    have anyone played/trained here?.

Airsoft is good for some scenario training if it is done professionally, just like paintball is great for ambush vehicle scenarios etc.

I wonder how serious the training is here and how muzzle discipline is obeyed etc. The MOUT is a good place to hone your skills, but it has to be done as training not playing, so I was wondering if anyone here has been there and can weigh in on the realism there and if the safety rules are obeyed like they would be for real firearms.

    You train as you fight!

Back when I used to play there were actually more adults then kids playing.

Airsoft kind of has it's own safety rules, such as no shooting inside the staging area or no shooting someone without eye protection. I don't remember anyone getting yelled at for breaking safety rules but at the same time I don't remember anyone really breaking them either.

I felt that it was as close to real combat as possible. I remember going out in this huge vegetation area in Simi Valley people used to call "Little Vietnam" and we would break up into groups and go out on patrols, sometimes you got contact and sometimes you didn't.

When I got out people were getting really serious about it. We split up based on camouflage, it was mostly desert camo vs everyone else (which waas usually woodland). The guns all looked real of course and people were using radios to stay in contact. I never came across a cheater, though I have heard of a small number of them and they don't last very long.

man that looks fun... and much better than MILES gear. what type of firearms are you guys planning on running? and from where?
i've been reading a lot on evikeforums, socalairsoft, etc. and i'm probably gonna be purchasing from evike (like that its a walk-in store and i can feel before i buy) or airsplat (website sucks but it's definately cheaper than most of the sites i've seen).
as for the weapons, i'll probably be going with a MPEG as i don't wanna spend a whole lot of money on the darn things.
thinking of getting a d-boys spr mod0 and a sidearm of some sort. the reason for the mod0 is also cus it'll be about the same size weight as my race AR (real steel).
probably a cqb one too like a mp5-pdw or the ak47 beta spez if i ever decide to play at airsoft playground.

I can special order stuff if you want

-I usually suggest new players avoid stuff like D-Boys as the lemon rate is rediculous.

If you haven't played before, start with something simple

I used to play regularly back around 5-6 years ago. A group of 4 friends and we started off using the cheap springers and as time went on we each started buying AEGs and modding them up and eventually we were captains of a 20+ person team. My main was a TM M4A1 with full internal upgrades that I had shooting at about 390-420 fps. We played often with the Roughnecks which is an organization based in Riverside with over 100 active members (may have grown since then). Very professional environment and very realistic. As someone above said, it was more adults than kids and quite a few were active military.

The one event that really stands out and that even to this day I relive almost every moment in my head was Operation: Lion Claws. Over 300 people gathered on a large open area in the mountains of Techachapi for the 3 day event and my company was commanded by Colonel Danny McKnight (for those of you that have seen the movie Black Hawk Down, he was the officer in the Humvee that took shrapnel in the neck portrayed by Tom Sizemore), plus several other highly decorated retired military officers.

Each scenario lasted 3+ hours and had everything from the long marches to covert ops, recon, mortar fire, vehicles with mounted guns, etc. In my opinion, one of, if not THE closest thing to the real thing without actually taking lives.

They have a whole series that spreads across the country and all feature different terrain, objectives, etc. If you're into airsoft do NOT pass this up. Just make sure you are well equipped! I have been tempted to reunite the old team just to go again because it was such a blast! I'm sure it has gotten even better as the years have passed.

Sorry for the long post... Just hard to not ramble on after such a good time. If you want anymore info about local teams/events just let me know. Here's the link to the OP:LC series website: http://oplionclaws.com/

I was extremely happy with every TM AEG I ever had or used. It was pretty much the standard when I was playing. I don't know if there are better companies out now but I'd say TM is the way to go.

Edit: Man, it is getting tempting again. Prices have come down quite a bit over the years. After my next 'real-steel' build I might just get another TM M4 to fix up. I regret selling my old one.

simple as in, don't buy unnecessary accessories for it. that includes uber-tactical scopes.

TM still holds the standards for quality, but if you don't plan on modifications, the Jing Gong guns aren't too bad. Echo1 is just a rebrand of different manufacturers so you want to be sure of what you're buying when you go into that.

the airsoft market has died when it comes to electric guns where a decent package can be found for as little as $150. Also, quality in players have gone down too.

Most of us old-tyme airsofters are going underground again.

yup... TM was the standard when i purchased my AUG as well (9-10 yrs ago) but am very attracted to the chicom clones which have gotten good reviews (the newer chicom stuff) especially for the price.

I was kind of expecting that. Hell, I was there before it really started to boom so maybe some of us 'old-timers of airsoft' can start another movement

do ALL the players come all tac'd out?
