Case-less ammunition and guns designed for it. They will be lighter and carry more rounds. No more cases to eject and no way for dirt to enter into a gun. The trick is to be able to do it and still have a gun that will be reliable. I think this would be easier than trying to miniaturize batteries to make a ray gun.

Rail guns are in the near future but will be limited to large artillery type cannons.

regarding military changes that the public will have some amount of knowledge, weight reduction/ergonomic improvements of weapons/equipment and the further advancement of military robots/aerial drones are some of the overt changes that will be evident.

If they've got a laser that can track, target and kill a mosquito...how long (if not already) will it be before they have a handheld one? And will we get a chance to own one? No way in hell. The govt will reserve the tech for itself and the overlords.

Coil guns. The real obstacle there is needing ferro magnetic projectiles. We can already make a coil gun that is rifle size that will shot a few projectiles at high velocity....but it is more dart like projectiles than bullet like. Battery capacity would need to improve too.

I think it will be some sort of light weight polymer casing instead of brass to cut down on weight and increase the amount of ammo someone can carry
