    Fixed shotgun choke?

I have a re-blued shotgun that has the choke markings covered up by the re-blue. Is there another way of determining the type of choke?

I found this in another forum, low tech but seems effective:
A US dime will not fit in the muzzle end of the barrel of a full choke, just barely in a modified and has plenty of room in a cylinder or improved cylinder.

The best method using tools you probably have is to mic the ID at the muzzle and compare to a chart.

There is a special tool that exists that measures the ID of the bore before the choke and in the choke, giving you the actual constriction, which is more important than the final diameter at the muzzle.

According to The Feeder, the dime method is for 12 gauge only, not 20 gauge. I took a dime and tried to fit it in the barrel of another 20 gauge I own. I used all 5 screw in chokes that fit the shotgun and the dime was too large for all 5 chokes. TheFeeder is correct - 12 gauge only.

Won't work if the barrel is backbored or is overbored.

Take it to a gunsmith who has a bore micrometer. That's the best way
