    Coalinga Rifle Club Info Needed??

Going there this Saturday and joining.
My Brother is coming from Los Angeles and meeting me there.
We want to shoot Pistol, Shotgun and Rifle.
I guess the shotgun will be hand thrown clays; pistol and rifle need more information on.
Do I need to bring my target stands? Do they have target stands there?
I see they have steel targets for small bore rifle. What is small bore rifle? We plan to shoot 5.56 and 7.62X54R. Would these be small bore consideration? I also expect that my 5.56 M855 steel core would not be allowed on this steel target range.
I have some M193 Ball Ammo that probably is ok.

    Thanks for any info..

Please don't shoot the steel core. It is fire season.
You cannot shoot magnum rifle rounds at the steel targets, but I think the 223 is ok. Not sure on the 7.62. Check with range master, he's a good guy and everyone is pretty helpful. It's a nice facility, especially the 1000 yd range (take handheld radios if you plan to use) they have steel targets at 200, 300 & 500 yards I think, it's been a while

The pistol range is nice but small, same with the sighting range. Good luck and have fun!!

Also, you do not need to bring target stands--there are stands made out of plywood to staple targets to. Don't know much about the steel target situation, but "smallbore" usually means 22 rimfire.

Isn't it like $30 to get in per visitor?

No--it's $30 to join. Unless you are there for an organized event, you may have to pay $5 to shoot.

Can we throw hand clay targets anywhere?

The highpower range is closed for the Coalinga Service Rifle Team practice.
              Keep it simple!

There is a trap/skeet range at the club. If you go here:

the banner picture across the top of the page shows the shotgun range. It's the area with trees at the right. The shotgun range is adjacent to the HP rifle range, but it is behind the 600 yard line so in principle shooting there would not interfere with the rifle team practice. "In principle"--I don't run the club. In fact, I don't know much about shotgun shooting there. I *think* that the trap/skeet machines can only be operated during organized events but shooters may hand-throw targets in the shotgun area. I think.

Why not just contact Joe Oman, the range officer? I'm sure he will be glad to answer any questions. If you are going to join the club, probably you will be talking to him anyway in person, because he (or another club representative) will give you a briefing on range operation and procedure. Here is his email: mellomax44@hotmail.com

                  Tim Thanks

                  I talked with Joe Monday
I didn't ask enough questions. I called during a break at work and darn work has been very busy lately. Just sent him an email asking a few things.
I was originally going to go to Los Angeles but there is a job fair that our 17 year old son really wants to go to on Friday. He is looking for a job before College starts in September. So this is a middle spot for us and my brother to meet and spend a day.

                  Again Thanks

One of the hidden jewels of California. It's going to be hot and dry so, bring a cooler full of drinks. Watch for buzzworms. If you stay for dinner, there's a bar/steakhouse/"oyster"bar in town that serves a mean prime rib.

Do you remember the Bar Steakhouse name.
So far seem like great people in charge there to deal with.

Mountain oyster bar or you could drive 10 min to Harris resort and have a huge (I mean huge) steak.

Mountain Oyster Steak House and Saloon is much better than Harris, it just has shorter hours don't go to late or they quit serving food. Both have big steaks, bring an big appetite.
