you don't need to remove the magazine tube to get the plug out. You can just poke it out when the barrel is off (through the small hole at the end of the magazine tube) by loading rounds into the magazine with the barrel off....

Grap ahold of it with a rag and twist.Thats how I got mine off.
After you get it off remove the wooden dowel.Re-assemble.
They can be kind of a bugger to get off the first time.
