Just to vent a bit. Some might get a laugh and that's ok.
I've been on a list for a Ca. version of the 9mm Shield for 1 1/2 at a first responder store. I've checked in every so often to see if they've heard anything. Nope.
I decided to go to an independent gun store after my nearby dr. appt. last month since they had been taking out full page ads in the paper about their expansion. I had pretty much given up hope for the Shield, but wanted to see the store.
I walked up to the counter and heard a salesman talking to a customer about the Shield. I apologized for interrupting, but asked if that gun was indeed a Shield. When a nearby salesman said it was, I explained my situation and figured since it was only $6 more expensive, I'd buy it if they had another. He said he had one in the back.
I put a deposit on it since I needed to wait for my check to come in a couple of days and left. Have you ever had a sick feeling. As I reached my truck, I did. I realized my price at the first responder store was $323, not $423.
It had been so long since I put my name in, I had forgotten. I called them and verified the price, but I also asked if they believed they'd get one in before it fell off the roster on 7-2. They said no. Ok, I may be spending $100 more, but at least I was getting one (I would be charged a restocking fee if I cancelled the deposit also).
Fast forward to the pick up date June 2. As I walked up to the counter to ask the salesman for my gun, I received a call before I could. I didn't look to see who was calling. The man asked if I was so and so and when I said yes, he said the Shield that I had ordered 1 1/2yrs. ago was in.
He was from another first responder store. I had forgotten I had signed up on their list also. Their price was $329, exactly $100 cheaper. I told him I was busy and would call him later.
I told the salesman at the independent store what happened and he just shook his head. What I really regretted was that with the $100 savings, I could have bought 1 brick of .22lr. He thought that was funny and I laughed too so I wouldn't cry.
I finally called the first responder store and told them to remove my name and give someone else a chance after relating what happened.
BTW, took the gun out yesterday to my club to check it out and it shot as well as I remembered it did last year at Raahauge's Sports Fair. I will now use it for my ccw along with my XDSC9. There are times when the smaller gun will be the better choice.

Oh well. Took it to the range last Friday, it is sweet. I'm actually a better shot with it than with my M&P full-size, at least at short range. Very happy with it. I carry it in a Remora holster, which I also can't recommend enough.
