    My Shield experience

Just to vent a bit. Some might get a laugh and that's ok.

I've been on a list for a Ca. version of the 9mm Shield for 1 1/2 at a first responder store. I've checked in every so often to see if they've heard anything. Nope.

I decided to go to an independent gun store after my nearby dr. appt. last month since they had been taking out full page ads in the paper about their expansion. I had pretty much given up hope for the Shield, but wanted to see the store.

I walked up to the counter and heard a salesman talking to a customer about the Shield. I apologized for interrupting, but asked if that gun was indeed a Shield. When a nearby salesman said it was, I explained my situation and figured since it was only $6 more expensive, I'd buy it if they had another. He said he had one in the back.

I put a deposit on it since I needed to wait for my check to come in a couple of days and left. Have you ever had a sick feeling. As I reached my truck, I did. I realized my price at the first responder store was $323, not $423. It had been so long since I put my name in, I had forgotten. I called them and verified the price, but I also asked if they believed they'd get one in before it fell off the roster on 7-2. They said no. Ok, I may be spending $100 more, but at least I was getting one (I would be charged a restocking fee if I cancelled the deposit also).

Fast forward to the pick up date June 2. As I walked up to the counter to ask the salesman for my gun, I received a call before I could. I didn't look to see who was calling. The man asked if I was so and so and when I said yes, he said the Shield that I had ordered 1 1/2yrs. ago was in.

He was from another first responder store. I had forgotten I had signed up on their list also. Their price was $329, exactly $100 cheaper. I told him I was busy and would call him later.

I told the salesman at the independent store what happened and he just shook his head. What I really regretted was that with the $100 savings, I could have bought 1 brick of .22lr. He thought that was funny and I laughed too so I wouldn't cry.

I finally called the first responder store and told them to remove my name and give someone else a chance after relating what happened.

BTW, took the gun out yesterday to my club to check it out and it shot as well as I remembered it did last year at Raahauge's Sports Fair. I will now use it for my ccw along with my XDSC9. There are times when the smaller gun will be the better choice.

I have shot mp shield .40 and it's nice. We had a rep out here not too long ago pushing the range pack with extra mags and holster. They are priced reasonably as well.

look on the bright side ...
in some countries you can't pay any amount to have the freedoms that we have to buy firearms here in the U.S.A..
(if they're under 10 rounds and if they're on the safe special list and if they don't have any evil features and if your mother gives permission and if you don't poke your eye out and if......)

okay that's not true you could always pay bribes or go black market in those "less free"countries, I'm pretty sure.

but at least yours was legal, if not a little more expensive then you originally thought.

        congratulations !?!

Am I missing something? Why does it take so long to get a SW MP Shield in CA? Maybe I should be buying a few more guns before I move back!!!

The shield is MO the best for CCW. It has totally changed the dynamic of cc for me. I previously carried a sub compact glock and now after purchasing my shield i havent looked back. Get a good holster for it.

I had a hard time getting a Shield out here in AZ as well. I either had money but nobody had them in stock, or they were in stock and I had no money. I finally picked one up about a month ago, and now the no-thumb-safety version is coming out and everyone has the safety version for dirt cheap. Oh well. Took it to the range last Friday, it is sweet. I'm actually a better shot with it than with my M&P full-size, at least at short range. Very happy with it. I carry it in a Remora holster, which I also can't recommend enough.
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

Looking at 9mm Shields too, local shops range from $459 to $339, unfortunately the $339 showed up after I put down a deposit down for one at $425.

I haven't done an exhaustive analysis but it seems like price spreads like this are fairly common......especially if you start looking online (even with the additional fees)

For the hundredth time, The Shield is not going to drop off the roster on 7/2. There seems to be a misconception that the expiration date on the roster means the gun will drop off the roster on that date. There are many threads here on this. Here's one:

Just picked up my Shield 9mm from Oaktree, $429 sale price for a CA version. Ive got 200 rounds through it with no problems, despite its size its a very easy and fun gun to shoot. My wife prefers it to my full size Sig P220 Combat.

+9000 I see this like twice a day. The date on the roster is ONLY the expiration of the current ransom. Every gun on the roster has a date. It doesn't mean every gun is leaving the roster!!!!

Blackdog concealment makes a great outside the waist band holster. With a decent belt, that Shield will snug right against your body and be nearly invisible...

Get it with that extra little part that goes between your body and the gun.
