    Walmart ammo policy?

My walmart will not let me pay for any ammo at the front desk, it's required I pay for and present identification at the register in sporting goods, is this the same for you?

Yep, same here. Target also does the same thing when you buy a video game rated "M".

It is that way in every Wal-Mart I have been in.

Nope, you're no more special than the rest of us it turns out. On a positive note though, you can buy the rest of your crap at the ammo counter too and walk out through the gardening section, avoiding the usual collection of cattle shuffling around at the regular checkout that's up front.

I fail to see the outrage here. And certainly not warranting a "retarted" slur.

I'm confused as well. Never had a problem paying at the register in sporting goods

It depends on the store. Everything from the locked cabinet gets paid for in sporting goods

If you are in a rural area, the shotgun shells are sitting out and you can load up your cart and pay at the front.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I don't know if the Central Valley is "rural," but all the Wal-Marts around Modesto (Turlock, Manteca, Ceres) has plenty of non-handgun ammo out in the open shelves. Its just the handgun, rifle and "premium" stuff that is locked up.

This is how it is at the walmarts around me in the city (SD county - San Marcos, Escondido, Poway, Kearny Mesa).

Also just realized that I've always voluntarily paid for my shotgun shells at the register in sporting goods...

What's wrong with paying at the Sporting Goods counter (other than self-labeling yourself as "retarted")? I get everything else I need, then go there and pay for everything there. It's a lot quicker than the regular checkout lanes anyway.

i bought a notebook in the electronics department and they rang up my order at the register in that department. you're not being targeted.

I pay for birdshot at both the automotive and gardening counters, and have bought various kinds of ammo up front around 20 min after the sporting goods counter closed

                              Oh, sweet irony...

Soooo, you'd prefer to wait in the longer lines with the "People of Walmart" to pay for your ammo?
