Oh, and what about all of the amnesia which occurs after a fellow officer does something bad? Are you going to deny that occurs, and has been a problem for decades? That amnesia is dishonesty at its worst. (By the way, the same thing goes for medical personnel--doctors, nurses, and hospital personnel are legendary for conveniently forgetting about treatment screwups. Are you going to deny that too because someone in your family is a doctor? Or because most doctors are honest?)
Just because many cops are honest does not mean that all are. There are plenty of bad apples out there. Enough for me to have changed my impression of law enforcement drastically based on all that I have seen in my life. So please stop with the holier than thou, don't criticize the police routine. Maybe, instead, you should wonder how it is that a staunchly conservative Republican with a strong disdain for the ACLU came to the point that he questions the motives and truthfulness of many LEOs. If you are an honest cop, then worry about yourself instead of attacking people who ciriticze the bad apples as if the "force" is something sacred who's honor needs to be upheld. Maybe if the police spent more time policing their own bad apples instead of protecting them with the "us versus them" zeal, LE would have a better reputation in this day and age.
Now let's talk about this particular individual and assume that he was LEO, which I do for the reasons stated in an earlier post. He a) saw a weapon on a table; and b) with no factual information whatsoever, assumed that it was a banned AW and proceeded to harass someone and accuse him of doing something illegal. How could he know by looking from several feet away that the gun was listed and/or unregistered? If an LEO walked up to me in a grocery store parking lot, accused me of driving a stolen car because SOME Nissans are popular targets of theft, and started frothing at the mouth about it, without running the plates and without any signs the car was stolen (broken window, punched ignition, etc.), then I would propose to you that the LEO was a buffoon. If you are telling me that you disagree, we are from different sides of the planet my friend.
