    hand guard over 16"

Im thinking of doing a AR15 build with a 20" or 22" barrel and looking for a free float hand guard longer then 16". So what are my choices

I haven't seen any over 15". I run a 15" MI Gen2 SS, and I use pretty much all of it with the hold that I use for 3gun. My barrel is 18" and the comp is 1.5". On short handguards, I end up grabbing the gas block with my fingers. I am only 5'7" 175 pounds and average build. I have wondered if other people could use a longer guard.

The tube style in plastic or carbon fiber would be easy to have in a longer length, but you have to find the longer piece or have it made. You could get creative and go outside the gun industry for a simple tube. Aluminum might work, but it could get hot if not vented.

I don't know how hard it would be to get a longer guard that is extruded and machined like the MI or other quad rails. If they are just a long extrusion that is cut off and machined, you would just have to get to that level of the manufacturing to get them to leave one long.

I always start with a google search and go from there.

I like simple slim handguards. Mine has a top rail, but I don't even use it. A totally round guard is a bit more comfortable on the hand, but not necessary.

What are you looking for, OP? Do you need to attach anything to the handguard?

Samson makes a 4" extension to add on to their rails, the longest they make is a 15" i believe, but you can add the 4" extension.

I havent seen any either which is why im turnjng to you guys. This would be a bench shooter so the only thing ill prolly put on the the guard is a bipod and iron sights on top. So the main reason im looking for a longer hand guard is looks and esthetics.

Lancer makes a handguard that goes up to 16.25". Longer than that, I'm not sure there are anyone making them. You can look at that Samson rail extender.
