    Ammo can/box recommendation

I'm looking for a ammo can that will let me load trays of handgun and rifle ammo into it as efficiently as possible, trays like this one:

Essentially, I want to be able to store handgun and rifle ammo like what this ammo can does for shot shells:

For some reasons they only make something like this available for shot shells, does any know of similar products for handgun and rifle ammo? Thanks.

MTM makes all kinds of individual sized shell holders for nearly all calibers.

WALMART is selling plastic "ammo boxes" for $7.

Not bad, handy size, stack-able. Designed for 20rd rifle ammo boxes, more or less. Works OK for 50rd pistol too.

Smart Reloader makes some of the best PLASTIC cans around. Rated to 70lbs. I have no idea, however, if they will fit the type of trays that you want/need. However, I thought the internal dimensions of a .50 cal ammo can was universal??

One thing to keep in mind about ammo cans is that, while larger cans may seem more efficient, smaller cans don;t get as heavy. When using plastic ammo cans/dry boxes, larger "cans" can bend under the weight of ammo when they are full.

Most of the handgun ammo I buy comes in plastic or Styrofoam trays. Why not just slide the tray out of the box and drop it in your ammo can?

Not all of them do, especially those Winchester whitebox 45acp and American Eagle 45acp 100 rounds pack. Plus, the trays don't fit in nicely into the ammo cans and I end up with some wasted space.

I thought of simply pouring all the ammo into the ammo can but it is a little messy when you're at the shooting station in the range. You'll have to keep the whole ammo can on the bench and leave the top open so you can grab loose rounds from it. I like the tray idea because I can take out one tray at a time.

Plus, my colleagues and I shoot together from time to time and I buy ammo for the group. It is easier for me to distribute ammo to them if they're in a tray.

Big 5 used to sell some pretty robust MTM plastic cans. The hinges, handles & latches are hella strong. They quit carrying those & now just have the usual flimsy stuff...
