Why do you own a gun?

Just wondering why you guys own guns, although I'm pretty sure it's mostly self/home protection, and recreation. I'm sure there are a decent amount of hunters on this site as well.

For me gun ownership is mostly about self protection, and secondly about recreational shooting. I just enjoy target shooting with different types of guns, different calibers, different action types.

Started as just fun and recreation when I 4x4 until Obama came in. Then they got a secondary use. But still mainly recreational desert good ol American fun.

But seriously, started when I stated hunting, then 2A became important so now I like then for many reasons, mostly because their just plain fun to, not only own but shoot.

And you get to meet interesting people who also enjoy the sport.

I had a couple of 22s when i was a kid. I got older and moved away and never felt a "need" for one, until the Rodney King crap. They looted and burned a shoe store a block away from where I lived. Since then I have bought many weapons.
Thank god I don't live anywhere near that same place but it's always nice to know that I could somewhat defend myself and my family should the crap ever hit the fan.
(Thats just one of the reasons)
