    DROSing question.

After filling out the paperwork and all info are entered on doj website(?):
1- Does the background check start immediately?
2- Does the background check extend untill the 10th day?

The only way to get around the implied question is to continuously have a firearm on DROS, in which case you are buying A LOT of firearms.

Yes it technically starts right away. The waiting period is 10 days because in theory you need to wait for the check to clear before you take possession. Usually, the background check takes less than 10 days, but if it runs longer, they will send a DELAY notice to the FFL.

Who knows (except someone in DOJ) when it starts ... and it really doesn't matter. All it says is that DOJ has up to 10 days to do background check on your filing. If nothing comes up after 10 days, you are free to pick up your gun. Even if DOJ takes just 1 day to finish after your filing, you still can't pick your gun up until 10 days waiting period expires.

Ok, thanks. I thought doj checks your background the first day and then additional 9 days for cooling off.

We get denials anywhere from 4 hours after the DROS is started to 10min before we can deliver.

Thank you. Oh boy! I also thought that two days or a day before the pick up date, you are home free. Yikes!

Last I heard was that NICS is basically instant, but Cal DOJ has the entire 10 days to check or not check at will. Dunno how true that is, but it makes some amount of sense I guess.

According to the DOJ, 20% of DROS's auto approve in 1 to 5 minutes, no human ever looks at these.
