Steele Peak is Closed for Shooting-BLM

    CGr's,

There have been multiple posts on this subject-If I am redundant, I apologize.

I just got off the phone from BLM-PS office to verify and confirm that the "Steele Peak" shooting area is indeed CLOSED and has been since late May. Please let all your family, friends and co workers know.

BLM indicated that the closure was fire season related but, they were cagey as to the rainy season reopener (i.e. ambient optimum moisture conditions)

I hung up with a sense that it might get closed for good-Ugh

Avoid fines, BLM ranger interaction and appearing as a less than a responsible shooter.

Clean ups -I plan on going out during "down time" and filling my truck with trash and debris

    Go NRA

I also emailed the office and was told it is closed.

Effective beginning Friday, May 23, 2014, and until further notice, a Stage III Seasonal Fire Prevention Order has been issued that includes much of the land within the jurisdiction of the Palm Springs - South Coast Field Office. Under this Seasonal Fire Restriction, recreational target shooting of any type is prohibited until the Fire Prevention Order is rescinded. The Stage III Seasonal Fire Restriction area includes all BLM lands in San Diego and Orange counties, portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and most of Riverside County west / south of Highway 111, and west / north of Highway 62. I have attached a pdf of the Fire Prevention Order.
The Stage III Closure does include the Steele Peak area, so this means that all recreational target shooting at Steele Peak is prohibited until the Closure is lifted

It's a round about way of banning public shooting areas, for good. Risk of fire is year round here. That was just a convienent excuse. You know where these BLM people take their orders from.

Until the climate is transformed into a tropical rain forest, none of these areas will open again. Even if that does happen, the Sierra club will file lawsuits complaining of enviromental damage.

You can still shoot out at sea, if you have access to a boat.

I had never ever thought of shooting at sea. Interesting

Has the BLM closed any land in San Berdo county? I have read as much as I can find on the subject, I don't see anything about SB county.

Thank you for your services sir. You are in deed a fellow gunner for cleaning BLM on your own time. On behalf of all shooters, thank you!
