    Allstate Firearm (renters) policy

I recently switched to Allstate for auto and renters... from what I've read online (including CGN), they had a decent firearm rider/coverage that was hassle-free (as opposed to Mercury, who required receipts/appraisals).

I went in to the local branch yesterday to specify my firearm coverage, and to both our suprise (angent and mine), the firearm coverage required either receipts or appraisals!

Anyone else have experience with this? I only have a few receipts, as some were PPT, inherited, built, etc.
Also, the last thing I want to do is haul 15-20 guns around town only to be lowballed by the LGS... and likely pay a fee for the appraisal.

    Any suggestions /experience with Allstate?

If you're an NRA member, you may want to check out the ArmsCare Plus insurance: http://www.locktonrisk.com/nrains/armscareplus.htm

do you have it? I am looking for about $20k without paying am arm and a leg. If need be I will get my guns appraised, but would really rather not hassle with it.

Something else that comes up is that individuals working at insurance companies can make different demands. re: if you talk to someone else you might get a totally better offer about what you need to do. and/or if you have an agent that is anti you get treated one way but if you switch agents at the same company to one with no opinion about guns... things could go fine.

I don't have it. I'm just throwing it out there as a possible option.
I did a little research on it a while back and it seemed like an affordable, relatively hassle free option. If I recall correctly you don't have to schedule individual guns unless they're valued over $5,000.

Used to work in insurance. The base renters policy will have a small amount of coverage, 1k to 2k, if I remember correctly. Any additional coverage will need to be scheduled onto the policy, which is fancy words for stated value. Once that happens, the the insurance company needs a third party to determine the value. And that's why they ask for receipts ans appraisals

Farmers told me the same thing. Any individual firearm over $1,000 (or $1,500 I can't remember) would require an appraisal. Depending on your LGS it may be difficult to get anyone to appraise them.

Look your gun up in the blue book of guns and get the MSRP
take a picture of the gun with the page for your records.

                      Time to jump ship...

CIS offers the best collectibles insurance service for whatever you consider valuable- vintage guns, sports cards, comic books, and more!

No receipts or appraisal needed. And I bet they're cheaper than Allstate. Paying $157 for $21K worth of coverage.

If your a vet or have access to USAA they have a pretty good renters policy. Dont need receipts.

state farm was the same way in my area. they wanted serial numbers and everything.

i chose to go with NRA armscare. about 20k covereage costs about 300 bux a year and they only ask for make / model and descriptive info on arms worth more than 2500 bux.
