I go to SFSU. I was a member of the College of San Mateo rifle club before I transferred: http://www.heypete.com/csmrc/

It was mostly just a handful of students hanging out and talking about different guns. The college wouldn't let us do any actual range activities as part of the club, due to liability reasons. In fact we had several staff members talk to us about all the liability issues for having club sponsored shoots. But even though, our club was the largest on campus.

There is a skeet range across Lake Merced but the city is making them close down.

I thought the pacific rod and gun club was staying open. last I heard someone was talking about letting students shoot for free. I heard about the club a csm but never signed up, don't know why. I'll have to look into all the info on starting a club, I just don't know how well it would go over with all the hippies.

I attended SFSU (class of '89).
Maybe you can have meets in the middle of Malcolm X Square in front of the Student Union.

You could host speakers to discuss topics at on-campus meetings (i.e. precision rifle shooting, gunsmithing, reloading, practical pistol, 2A/RKBA legal issues, etc.). Then, "as individuals," you could arrange to meet at local ranges for either get-togethers or to compete in pre-existing competitions. Available outdoor ranges within reasonable driving distance include Chabot in Castro Valley or Richmond Rod & Gun Club. Indoor ranges exist in South San Francisco, San Leandro, and San Rafael. I'm sure that ranges/clubs would be willing to work or partner with you to help you out.

It is unlikely that you could ever compete as the "SFSU Club Team," but there are options available that would allow you to experience shooting and shooting issues both on campus and off. It would also be a foothold for getting shooting activities back on Bay Area campuses in an non-psychopath-with-a-Glock way.

I'm going to look over the guidelines and figure out what needs to be done, hopefully I will have the time, don't know how they will react to a gun club. I'm sure if this goes through you could join in. doughboy334 i'm sure you would be more then welcome to come along. I think it would be a great way to show people in SF that guns arent evil, and have many uses other then killing people. we could even have some of the fine folks on calguns to give suggestions on writing the constitution, rules and other guidelines that are needed.

I think the club might pass if it is presented well (eg: guys proposing the club are clean cut and go against the knuckle-dragging redneck stereotype) and you guys name the club "softly", something more to do with sporting (eg: Precision shooting and skeet club). It might suck, but sometimes you gotta play their game to beat them.

Yeah Definitely will have to be very professional about it, I wear glasses so it makes me look smart, well makes me look like less of an idiot. i guess I;ll have to cut the beard and hair, i look like a mountain man, the girl will be happy though.

SFSU Marksmanship Program... similar name to CMP... doesn't sound very threatening... learn about the history of the armed forces programs... and what they did for the united states. , for starters...the history of military personel weapons...
