One obvious source (at least to me ) is the NRA. they have a course called Personal Protection Inside the Home.

On a related topic, you may also want to consider becoming more informed on disaster preparedness. If you have a local CERT coordinator, you can contact that person regarding classes. They provide first aid, communications and general disaster response, prep training. It fits in well with protecting you and your family.

There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained by reading on the internet. But take the time and spend the money and get real training, there's too much you won't learn from a book.

Do a google on itts great classes and real world knowledge.

Interesting idea. I don't know of a lot of sites that give away that kind of info, possibly due to liability, but for mindset (which, IMO is the most important aspect of self-defense), this site is a good start: http://www.corneredcat.com/ It's not specifically home-defense, and is tailored more toward women, but for us guys, if we can just ignore all that light red there is something to be learned.

Also look into the writings of Jeff Cooper, he covers mindset very well, IMO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Cooper_(colonel) Principles of Personal Defense is a must-read. It's a pretty thin volume, since the ideas set forth are actually pretty simple.
