out of state - to - CA - restrictions by zip code?

Hey all,

Ran across a gunbroker seller who does not want to sell ammunition at all to CA. Sent him a question basically asking why not, and he said he's had trouble in the past selling to Californians in no-go areas.

I thought it might be a good idea to send him a list of zip codes in CA that cannot be shipped to (a non-FFL) from out of state.

So what zip codes are no-go areas for getting ammo shipped to private residents?

I don't know of any list.

The ammo restrictions might have to do with your local city laws. I have friends who live in Oakland who can't get ammo shipped to them because of some local laws there. (Someone please correct this if I'm way off base)

The first time I ordered ammo online, the vendor called me and told me he couldn't ship it to me because of the zip code. No problem, I reordered in a week but had moved to the next zip code but in another city. I got my ammo.

I'm out in the desert where there are no restrictions, but I was still wondering if a compilation of restricted areas are listed somewhere. How do the vendors from out of state know where and where not to ship? Or, why are there so many conflicting opinions on where stuff can be sent to? If there isn't a comprehensive list, then there ought to be (and widely published to avoid overly restrictive seller limitations).

I have seen an ammo sellers not wanting to ship to California. I was going to send them a message.
But a Cabella's $20 off coupon showed up. And Cabella's got the order for the 50 Beowulf ammo.

The confusion for out-of-state suppliers come from local ordnances, eg. Los Angeles city, which requires the buyer to fill in a log in the store and provide ID etc.

I recently met a woman who has a business selling porn on DVD from her online store, and she has a computerised shipping system in place which rejects orders in states (eg. Utah), counties, or cities which have local laws prohibiting the sale of adult material. The system is based on zip codes and she told me putting together this zip code data base was very time consuming and expensive, and mistakes can prove to be very costly.

The ammo suppliers fall into the same problem. They just don't have the time or resources to research very city or county ordnance.
