    Residency for gun purchases

So I have a house in Texas but won't be moving there full time for another couple of years. Just going to slowly transition there. So what does the law says about when I become a Texas resident for gun purchase and gun ownership?

    Feds say
State of residence. The State in which an individual resides.

An individual resides in a State if he or she is present in a State
with the intention of making a home in that State.

You'll need to check with TX for what they require.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks for the link. Reading one of the exmaples ...

"Example 2. A is a U.S. citizen and maintains a home in State X and
a home in State Y. A resides in State X except for weekends or the
summer months of the year and in State Y for the weekends or the
summer months of the year. During the time that A actually resides
in State X, A is a resident of State X, and during the time that A
actually resides in State Y, A is a resident of State Y."

I didn't know that I can be considered resident of 2 states like the example says.

If you have a home in Texas and you 'live there' at least some of the year, you can claim it as your home. This is very nice for both income tax and gun purchasing requirements.

Your intention is not to make a home in California, you are just working in CA to make money so you can enjoy your home there.

Once you have a home you can get a drivers license, once you have that you should be set. Ya you cant buy guns in CA anymore but who the hell cares? That' be like saying you can shop at costco or you can shop at kmart BUT if you shop at costco you cant go back to kmart... lol

Someone needs to build a house right smack centered on the four corners and force the feds and states to get their act sorted.

If youre moving near Austin, go with Jim Willy to do your trust. He did mine quickly and it had no issues when I sent it to ATF. Unfortunately I cant take my stuff into CA but I called ATF and you just need to fill out a 5320.20 interstate transfer form and its totally legal to leave your class 3 items anywhere as long as ATF knows and you (or your trustees) are the only ones with access to the key.

Since Im moving to Riverside soon, Im just going to rent a storage locker in Phoenix or Vegas (haven't decided which yet) and am going to leave all my restricted stuff/non CA friendly stuff there inside a safe. Make sure to take a TON of pictures for insurance purposes. I toyed with the idea of putting some kind of GPS unit in the safe too in case it gets stolen but honestly I hear most GPS units dont transmit well through steel.

Hold on, is IR night vision illegal in California?

As far as I know, if it's IR and the scope can be mounted on the rifle, it's illegal in CA. Do you already have one? 8)

I am confused. Why would I need a trust??

If you get NFA items for yourself, then in the event anyone used them without you present, they would go to prison. So for example: You put a can on your nightstand gun. You're at work and somebody breaks in while your wife is folding laundry. She grabs gun with can because thats what you train with (and why you bought the can in the first place). She shoots bad guy. Cops arrive and find someone not authorized to use a suppressor has used it. She goes to prison (and likely you will too for not having it locked up where only you could get to it).

Had your wife been a trustee, it would be a non-issue. Adding people to a trust is free btw. It can be friends too if you want someone to split the bill with.

Plus as a trust you dont have to get any LEOs involved. Probably not an issue in TX depending on where you move to, but if you can avoid them why the heck not.

                          Wow.

And no I dont have that much money. I wish though. Of course if I had that much money, I wouldn't be moving to CA Id stay in TX and get my degree here.

No problem. Make sure to checkout http://www.silencershop.com/ for the best prices on suppressors anywhere. If you move anywhere near Austin, check out their shop in person. Definitely one of the coolest little shops I have ever seen in my life.

Probably the biggest surprise though will be seeing how much money you save by buying guns online
