Maybe the media will start changing how they cover these stories. Granted, the cat's out of the bag & there is already an abundance of information from past shootings that a future nut can glean from. But maybe they'll stop glorifying the shooters to a point where they become media stars.

Which is sad, because he was involuntarily admitted for psychiatric evaluation in 2010 & 2012. He was a prohibited person, but then that would have only worked from him getting a firearm, not using anything else. I know how people feel about background checks. But I for one would like some way of making sure these psychos don't get their hands on guns. There should be a way to do a background check on someone that doesn't let the FEDs know what we're checking for. People's backgrounds are checked all the time for employment reasons, why can't there be something that basically says the person does or does not have any felonies, restraining orders, or 5150's on their record. No details, just something that says "Hey, this person has issues that restrict him from certain jobs, owning firearms, or being close to schools & children."
No background check required.

If anything this incident proves our point. An armed good guy is what it takes to stop an armed bad guy. Sure the guard only had pepper spray. Fact of the matter is, that's a defensive weapon! The problem is he had to wait for the guy to reload in order to get close enough to employ the tool he had to defend his life and the lives of those around him. If the guard had been trained and armed with a firearm there's a good chance that he could have stopped the attack sooner and from a safer distance. The guard was very lucky that the bad guy had run the shotgun dry before reloading. If he had been topping off and still had a round in the chamber I don't think the guard would still be with us today. He may not have been able to get close enough to spray the guy.

If he was involuntarily committed and knew he was prohibited, he just put the nail in the coffin for cash and carry.
Also, it was not a security guard who stopped him. It was an ordinary student. If it were not for his courage, it would have been much worse. Does it matter if he didn't have a gun to stop him?

Guessing folks also forgot that 2 years ago, another person with a history of mental illness walked into a Seattle cafe and killed 5 before offing himself.
Bring back involuntary commitment.
