For CA regs any lock will work as long as it is a DOJ approved lock. Usually cable locks.

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

It also has to be a specific brand purchased in the past month or so. I just
bought a SP-01 last week at Bain & Davis they said I had to have a DAK(spelling?) purchased within the last month when I pick it up. I said I've a bunch various cable & trigger locks & they said no it has to be that particular brand, with proof that it was purchased within the last month. WTF! So, I have to spend another $9 for something I've already got & don't need.

Yes you need to have/purchase a gun trigger/cable lock when picking a pistol up. But be aware, those locks ARE NOT an exemption to the concealed carry law (12025). Some people think having the trigger/cable lock on allows for concealed travel. Also the case provided by the manufacturer doesn't always accommodate a lock. I've even seen some people wrap the cable lock around the handle of the case thinking it is now a secure locked container. (a recruit at a police academy was doing this and I was able to remove his glock with the cable still in place. )
False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.

unfortunately without a receipt for one of those locks(which they don't give out) you can't use one of those locks to satisfy the requirements.

but they work when you private party transfer if it is with the gun at time of sale write on bill of sale to person one pistol serial ##### and one gun lock and date

make sure if you are the buyer to give the lock to the person selling you the gun before entering the store

Buy a lock from Walmart, return it when you are done.

                        trigger locks

GREAT, so the 5 master trigger locks i have wont cut it. I may just try and pass off an obsquire receipt with the lock.

Yeah, buy a lock from walmart and take it back after you pick your pistol up. I do it all the time. Personally I feel this is a retarded law.

No need to buy and return - just go to the PD and get them to stamp a business card in the time stamp machine as seabass said. I did it last month for a PPT and it works fine. Agreed, this is a realy lame rule.
