Morning @ the Range well Spent...casings

Well had a little free time this morning, so I've been wanting to try some new ammo I purchased.

Well some of you know Tehama county range ( BLM ) well....... not so much with the Southern state crowd.

Early 6;30A nice outside good temp some humidity, so OK this is good.
Driving on what's got to be the worst road in Tehama Co & prolly just South of two miles in to the open shooting area, wow nobody on the road and no shoots fired sense I stated up.

Now I arrive at the shooting area and no one, but what I do see, is what most of you see when going to an open (BLM ) range, trash and shell casings for days.

I fire like 10 rounds, and my ammo shoot and cycles fine, so instead of enjoying the range time, I spend the next 2 hours picking up.

I know from some of the post you ( or many of you ) do likewise, and forfeit some or most of your range time to protect the area from closing.

I'm assuming this is so for everyone on CGN.

Their is one thing I wish and that be no more aluminum casings,..... brass or steel only..........why you say, because people won't pick it up, and it's a ***** to do so.

I found only a couple brass cases, and most of those were destroyed so that's why those were still there, the steel well I bring a magnet on a stick, and can make short work with those, still be nice if others would just pack out what they bring in.

P.S. if anyone's got a good way to pick up 22lr,22mag,& 17 I sure would like to hear it. thanks to all who do the deed.....and enjoy your range while you still can.

Am I the only one to haul an "old goat" parking lot vacuum out ?

It picks up everything , brass , plastic , aluminum , steel.

Thanks folks, the vac just........well won't work on dirt, I mean it will but don't need to bring home more dirt than the brass.

Now that wizard well might have to give that some research, as the problem of the dirt and rocks could hinder. H*** of a idea though.

Where I go is all loose dirt So I'd be picking up mass quantity's of soil for every case sucked up, so just won't work for my application.

I have one, but they are not all that. They will pickup rocks as well, and if you get larger brass or shotgun shells stuck between the wires, then the smaller brass falls out of the wheel. If you were on a hard packed surface or concrete it might do well. I just bend over and pick up my brass. I have been know to put on my knee pads and clean up the private bays at my range, when they are empty. I do the same to collect used bullets to get lead for casting. Our range sits in a small canyon and the range area is pretty much river bed with some dirt mixed in. I thought of sifting the dirt for lead, but I would have a lot of bullet sized rocks as well.
