Let's alter how everything played out A bit. What would have happened if the deputies didn't check the database nor viewed the YouTubes videos and a few of the officers got killed. Elliot Rodger got nervous decided to run Plan B and to take out a few cops. Would this CYA behind the department's policies and procedure still fly?

My personal take is that the deputies were a bit negligent by not reviewing all the intels available. If they were going into a house in Compton or Inglewood, I am sure they would have been more diligent.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about these nuts and how they shoot up all these people. Gun control doesn't work... PERIOD.
Of all the media outlets out there, NPR did a story saying it doesn't work. Look at history. People have always been killing eachother. Just because guns have recently been introduced (last 300 years) doesn't meant it'll ever end. Forget the political bs and bring back public hangings

I believe but do not know that department training and procedures already assume there could be a dangerous bad guy behind every door. That's one reason the cops are armed to begin with. That's why, for example, the cop who stops you in traffic stands behind the B pillar while he speaks to you.

yes. His mother reported a full grown adult. Not a child. You seem to think that just because she is his mother that she has ANY more power over the life of a 22 year old man than any other person. Thats totally ridiculous.

I believe it was 6 or 7 cops that checked on this guy. He made SIX COPS believe that he was totally normal. This had nothing to do with police laziness or whatever seems to be the prevailing opinion. If they knew he owned guns, it would not have changed anything whatsoever.

Literally the only way they had a chance of stopping this guy was to stomp on his civil and constitutional liberties by kicking down his front door and searching his house based on nothing but his mommy's word and some creepy videos.

Its not illegal to be creepy in america. You should have seen the videos me and my friends put out when we were 17. but none of us shot up a school

This thread is amazing. There are plenty on here saying the police should have done things that in other threads you consider illegal or would have cried about if the cops did it to you. I am simply amazed at what I am reading. You want less government intrusion, yet you are questioning why they didn't intrude more into his life.

What totally amazes me is that his own family reported him to law enforcement. Had they arrested him for something or seized his property, they would have been the first in line to scream "Tyranny!" and demand action.
