USDA Purchasing .40 Cal Machine Guns

Why are we arming USDA with submachine guns and body armor?

Perhaps they know something that we don't? Strange stuff for sure. Maybe it's just that they needed guns to shoot the billions of rounds of ammo they ordered?

I'm surprised they stopped at submachine guns. With all those mad cows running around they should have at least gone with 240 bravos.

Its interesting that federal LE agencies are all going with .40 and giving up interchangeability with the military (and most civilians). Hmmmmm

              Anyone have any ideas?

heard about this from a friend also. would be nice to get an explanation as to why they feel the need to be armed. I don't think food processing plants are giving them troubles.

Food stamp fraud is HUGE. Organized crime, gangs and terrorists participate in it. They are buying .40 because the FBI puts out those IDIQ contracts that other Fed agencies can buy off of without having to go through the bid and selection process.

On a side note, I am buying stock in Alcoa because the tinfoil market is on the upswing. Plus, this topic was covered last week.

USDA responded to POLITICO by explaining that there are more than 100 agents employed by the law enforcement division of the department’s Office of the Inspector General who carry such weapons because they are involved in the investigation of criminal activities, including fraud, theft of government property, bribery, extortion, smuggling and assaults on employees. From fiscal 2012 through March 2014, OIG investigations pertaining to USDA operations have netted more than 2,000 indictments, 1,350 convictions and over $460 million in monetary results, the OIG told POLITICO in a subsequent email.

One thing to remember as the TFH crowd weighs in on the matter... There is a perception in Washington that you are not a serious player in government unless the agency you oversee has LE status. No deep conspiracy, just LE envy by government bureaucrats seeking in do what they do best...seek higher status.
