If it's a shooter, forget about the scratches.

Compensation? Ask the gunsmith to cut you a deal on the next gun you send, which you should do. Sounds like a stand-up guy.

There's no excuse for those scratches. I would be pissed, the gunsmith will never be able to replicate the factory finish IMO. I would want a new pistol.

The problem is that is not a idiot mark but chipped paint. Those that have not worked on newer CZ's lately will be shock to find out the Aluminum Frame on alot of the models is painted with Automotive paint.

The paint finish is very spotty at best when I was prepping one for Cerakote I would have areas that would just explode off the frame the instant the sand blaster hit it and other areas you would have to sit for 4 to 6 seconds before you could break through the very thick finish applied in certain areas.

Unlike a vehicle in CA where you have the right go to any repair shop you want not the same for other types of repairs. If the shop warranties all of their work and you do not give them at least 1 chance to get any damage repaired you will have a tough time in court collecting anything.

In this case the Gunsmith is doing the right thing and even though not sure it is his fault ( to be honest I have seen MANY CZ frames with paint flaking off with just a finger nail rubbing) and could say it was a manufacturers defect he still wants to fix it.

Just be happy he is a honest business man because I know of a lot of other shops that would tell you it is a manufacturer's defect and to go beat sand. Comments like the one from Steve G is silly at best, get the paint job on your car scratched and ask for a new car and see how hard your insurance agent laughs.

i would push the issue if he refused but if he showed he was willing off the bat to have it refinished at his expense to keep me happy then I would be happy at that and drop the issue unless it was a very super nice gun.

What makes you think you are entitled to anything more?

He sounds like a stand up guy. THAT's the word I would spread about his shop. Not that your gun was scratched while in his care.

OP The photos you posted are fine and all since you documented the spots known to you but what about a before photo of the area in question...

I'd actually like to know the shop name, kinda rare to find a shop that stands behind their work like that

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it but I don't really buy my guns for looks (nothing wrong with buying them for looks) and I expect them to get scratched during use.

That being said if it really bugs you that much when you look at it I'd send it back and let him make it right

Yup. Sounds like a stand up shop I'd be happy to do business with.

                  Like others said.

Live with it or send it in for refin. This doesnt give you the right to hold him at gunpoint for other extras and freebies.

This. Sharpy it in if its that big a deal. Its just a little scratch

Seriously. People on this site get their panties in a bunch over the tiniest scratches and blemishes, like their guns are jewelry or something.

The gunsmith sounds like a stand up guy so IMHO these are your only options.

After looking at it, and reading Eagle eyes' post; it seems that CZusa is scrimping on the finish to be able to offer their other features, and hold at their price-point. I would split the difference with the 'smith on a Cerakote job in "Sniper Grey," and enjoy having a good gunsmith at hand for future work.

Agreed. Those marks wouldn't bother me, they add character.

I'll never forget going down to the sheriff's office years ago to add a new pistol to my CCW.

This big burly deputy comes out to check the serial numbers, and says to me, "you ever shoot this thing?"

It was kind of embarrassing, so, although I don't go out of my way to mark up my pistols, I look at dings as a sort of "seasoning" and character.

You put the ball in his court

He made his decision, and now you make yours.

He comes off as being very stand up.

I would not worry about a couple nicks in a tool. But, I would out the smith. He sounds like a smith I'd use in a heartbeat.
