Recent reliable government funded research regarding firearms is hard to find.
1996 - The NRA successfully lobbies congress to stop CDC funding toward gun violence. Soon after, congress bans any scientific study of gun ownership, largely thanks to Newt Gingrich and Bob Barr. Obama has address this, and has pledged $50 million toward research.
Daily Carry or Condition White
Condition white is an elevated awareness and feeling of responsibility to respond to threats while carrying. Extended effective range gives you a sense of stewardship toward the community in other words.

Its called fear relevant stimuli. Due to a threat superiority effect ingrained in all of us, we now identify guns and syringes out of a landscape faster than snakes, birds, or wood chucks.
