Process to Register a completed 80%

    Hello CalG community!
I was contemplating purchasing some ar-15 90% lowers, completing them with serial #'s and then registering them in case I want to gift them, or really as a safety precaution so I don't get in trouble with any legal law enforcement.
Can I register multiple at once with no issues?
    Thanks!

You know that there's no reason to register them at all, right?

I do understand that. I guess if the process is easy enough, what harm would it do? And it would def. increase my confidence in carrying these around at a future date.

Waste of money for one. when you sell/gift it , it will be registered to the next person owning it.

If your worried about it just get them engraved with serial numbers. No need to register them. Long guns and shotguns only just started to get registered this year so there are hundreds of thousands of rifles and shotguns if not more out there that are not registered.

The other issue is getting push back from an FFL if I plan on transferring them as a pistol (obviously, with the intent to build it as a pistol). I can avoid that if I just register it up front as a pistol, no?

OP=DeLeon to get us used to the idea of registering 80%'s.

To register as pistol must be assembled. Have to do sse. Must do safety test.

If you feel that way, then just buy some stripped lowers for $79 bucks each.?

That way you spend less for the same goal and don't have to wear a tinfoil hat.

X2 on just buying stripped lowers. 80% are just as much in some cases more than a complete cut lower. Might as well just buy them stripped.

Huh? FFLs can't look to see if a firearm is registered or not. So, I don't see what difference it would make. Also, remember that you can not manufacture a firearm with the intent of transferring it to someone else. This thread alone makes me doubt that you would truly be manufacturing it for yourself. It already appears that you have the intention of transferring it.

Buying and finishing a 80% or 90% is more expensive than just buying one already done, your defeating the purpose of the 80% build.
