    review of the cammenga easymagrepairpartskit

    overview of the parts

    where the magic happens

where the nub releases the follower

    crud resistant mag latch

ok here's the skinny on the cammenga easymag(repairpartskit)

first off the mag is steel and very sturdy not like a promag steel it is amazingly sturdy i can slightly pinch the body but it springs right back its not like a soft steel its very hard but its very heavy 8.8 oz the finish on it is amazing ive slid the front down and up like 100 times and there appears no wear on the grooves

to use it you pull down the front the 4 way anti tilt follow will lock with the baseplate (although it is a bit hard to start the pull down as there is kind of a little detent area at the top to keep it up) you insert the rounds i could fit 31 but you have to stop at 30 so the follower can be released(you must take care not to let a cartridge sit in the rear bolt lock channel but its very easy to load

after using it a few times i noticed it occasionally didn't actuate the bolt lock although pulling the bolt back with the empty mag did actuate it (probably just isolated incidents maybe dirty catch area on my rifle)

it has the over insertion area so you wont shove it through the upper and unlike any metal mag o have seen the catch area is closed so no debris is getting in through there

it is tricky to assemble and dissassemble

    i'll explain

to assemble you must put the follower on the front slide first then attach it to the main body by squeezing the main body a bit to get the front slide in the grooves
then you need to take a finger or wood dowel and push the spring in about an inch to get the tall fronted floorplate in
once the floorplate is in a inch and a half you can release the spring and it will sit behind the frontal areathen making sure the front slide is completely up lightly tap on the back of the floorplate till it seats

to dissassemble in the instructions it says to pull down the slide about 3/4 of the way down and insert a rod in the front slide hole and capture the spring so it will release its grip on the floorplate although since this method takes about 3 hands i found a better way

using a screwtriver to pry up the rear of the floorplate slide it rearward about 3/4 an inch then insert a wood dowell(i used an unsharpened pencil (cause that is about the only tool i had handy in my grand sierrra hotel room) to push the spring away from the floorplate you just have to have it grab a coil maybe 4 or 5 turns in to have the spring ride up and over the front of the floorplate then pull the floorplate rearward and it drops out pull the spring out the follower will drop out then slide the front off

the spring does not attach to the follower as in gi mags but there is a secure depression in the metal stamping for it the follower looks very similar to the new armalite ar-10 mags

it is a good mag for the range as it loads easy but if i was in the army no way would i want this mag it weighs more than 3 issue mags and those who worry about the mag scratching the well you have a point since the front slide has a couple sharp edges that will over time gove you verticle grooves on both sides 1/2 an inch back from the front the lips are undeformable as seen here are fully supported from the rear

    so final thoughts

am i going to replace all my mags with this? no
if a person needs to repair one defective magazine would i use this kit ? yes as being fond of all things mechanical this is a marvel of modern metalurgy and design all for only $25

I had trouble assembling and disassembling the easymag until I saw a video on YouTube. The key is to use an AR charging handle to push the spring down when diss/assembling.
