    RE: 7.62 x 39 ammo...

Sure everyone knows that there's a shortage of production ammo, but does anyone know how long it will take if I backorder it from Cabellas ???
Decent price, but how long is the wait and is it worth it !?
I've heard prices will drop as soon as production increases, but does anyone know what the timeframe will be ??

i ordered mine from cabelas on april 21 and my order has been sent out via ups on may 21st. not bad for 1000 rounds @ 142.00 delivered. I dont mind the back order at all as long as the price is good.

Even if the supply comes up, dealers won't bring down prices, it doesn't work that way, once they have an excuse to charge more, they'll continue to do so, why do you think gas is expensive.

i wouldn't call 78 million rounds a buttload (the number comes from here http://www.ammoman.com/AMMO_SHORTAGE.htm)

i don't believe 78 million rounds would deplete the world supply of 7.62x39. that's just silly. there must be other reasons, i don't have any ideas. besides, it's been going on for a while now, and where did all the yugoslavian, chinese, etc. surplus go?

i assume that was reply to my post. if not so -- ignore.

              78,000,000 over 1 year
78,000,000 rounds, let's say they have 50,000 troops armed with AK's = 1,560 rounds per. doesn't seem like that much, does it?

I believe Glen's post was in reference to "buttload." It is a buttload of rounds if it's in your butt.

Don't forget that Iraq and Venezuela are also buying a buttload also.

maybe it's worthwhile to research to setup a production in north america

I'm surprised more ammo companies don't make this caliber. It's not like there is a shortage of rifles to shoot it.

there're plenty of companies that make it, it's just 3-4 times the price of wolf or bear, and 4-5 times the price of military surplus.

btw, CTD just raised the price on "7.62x39 Centerfire Rifle Cartridges, 122-Grain Hollow Point Bullet, 500 Rounds" from $79 to $89.

I dont think any commercial production is able to match Wolfs ability to produce these cheap reliable 7.62x39 rounds. And at same time remain profitable. Think about it, we buy these rounds for about $0.13 a pop, thats after being shipping to US + middle man costs. These steel cased rounds are produced from coldwar military factorys in massive quatities and can't be beat. C'mon when you think of 7.62x39 rounds what image comes to your mind? (Grey steel cased Russian rounds) I think Wal-mart pretty much beats out any retailer when it comes down to ammo prices... exception?
