    Noob OLL question

Ok, I tried the FAQ and doing a search for OLL on here, and only got the word "poll", and some buggy responses. I apologize for asking what is probably one of the most common questions noobs ask on here, but I did try to get the information on my own first.

Are OLLs still legal here in California for building your own AR? And if so, who in San Diego, or the surrounding counties sells them? There is one store here selling Sig 556's that are compliant, but if I am going to spend a big chunk of cash on something, I would rather have an AR of some sort. Thanks in advance, and sorry to beat a dead horse.

Still legal, they are called OLLs because they are Off List Lowers. As in off the ban list.

If the shop is selling SIG 556's see if they can transfer or get a hold of some stripped lowers. I am not in that area, so that is really all the advice I can offer. Good luck though.

They are not a shop I want to do business with. Transfer fees there run close to $100, and they are generally unhelpful. And yeah, I knew what OLL stood for, I just couldn't get something worthwhile to pop up in the search.

          Ok, so who and what?

Alright. Now does anybody have any recommendations on a particular brand or brands they prefer? What about sellers? And most importantly, who do you recommend as an FFL here in San Diego? Is there anybody that any of you have used before? I would rather have somebody who already knows the regs, as many of the gun stores around here won't even think about importing them.

Discount Gun Mart on Morena has Stag lowers in stock most of the time. Most of the time they are helpful there but once in a while a bad experience is reported. I've had mostly good experiences there. If you buy a lower there (due to San Diego location) I'd shop around from the vendors on this forum (and maybe other online places) for the parts to build it up.

If you can wait for a Del Mar gun show, Cold War Shooters is there, and you can do a transfer with Don Gussler in Santee. CWS had several brands of OLL when I purchsed mine. His transfer price was $25 plus DROS, IIRC. You'd also only need to make the one trip to Santee if you do the paperwork at the show, so it's pretty easy.

There might be others, but I've used both of these.

            all the best,

            Mike

Lower brand doesn't really matter... pick a roll mark and logo you like. It's the only part that needs an ffl. Buy the rest mail-order.

The Flowchart is awesome. Do people have them laminated and stored in their range bags?
