Don't tell anyone there you own guns. It won't go well for you.

Do not go to Canyon Sports under any circumstances. It's probably the worst gun store in the Bay Area except for target masters. In Berkeley your choices you ready for a limited. I hear very good things about AAA in Vallejo. If you're willing to drive a bit, Cordelia Gun Exchange is good. Just do everything you can to get out of Berkeley as quickly as possible.

The folks at Canyon Sports are self-admittedly @$$holes, but they have a good selection and solid pricing. Let's be honest; they're just short with people. If you know what you want, and have the currency to purchase what you want, they're a pretty good place to deal with.

Protip- flip the script and be short with them --> purchase items --> win

I've lived in Berkeley and Oakland for years.
it's not as bad as everyone is telling you it is.
once you get to know some people, you'll realize that, just like everywhere in america, there are pro gun folks and anti gun folks (admittedly, they may be the majority in that area.)
          in all of those cities.
and I also believe more homes in those areas have guns than most people would think. (but no one ever talks about their guns in public there, until they get to know you.)

and for the very best service I've ever had at a gun shop..

I suggest you drive a little bit south and go to
" San Jose gun trader " he is a home-based FFL gun store, you can order whatever you like and he usually has a a good stock of a rifle pistols and shotguns both new and used with reasonable and negotiable prices. ( I think you'll always pay more for anything in the Bay Area than most other places in the continental U.S.) *its very pleasant dealing with them.
in fact it's like going over to a friends house, looking at his firearms inventory, and going back in 10 days to pick up your guns.

they are a vendor here so you can probably just do a search for their name, if you're interested.

          and welcome to Berkeley.

feel free to send me a PM if you have other questions.

Annie's Guns in Fremont can be worth the drive.
The nearest Wal-marts with ammo are either down that way or in American Canyon on the way to Napa. I don't believe there are shipping restrictions on ammo.
