Gun Fascination?

1. Define exotic. I don't really think of my Colt 1903 or 1851 navy as particularly exotic, but some might.1. Owning several weapons, especially exotic weapons.
2. Retaining a large supply of ammunition
3. Frequently talking of weapons.
4. Developing skills with different weapons
5. Frequent trips to gun shops
6. Dressing in fatigues or other military clothing
7. Subscribing to mercenary gun magazines
2. Define large. Across all calibers I have about 5000 rounds(not counting components for reloading) and I think I am getting low
3 Yea, guilty
4. Again, guilty
5. Come on, it's on my way home from work.
6 and 7, no fatigues stick out to much, and I never enjoyed the magazines.Yes, I am an electrical engineer.
No, I will not fix your computer.Comment

I see what picture they are trying to paint there, and they are using too broad a brush if this were to ID a person with violent tendencies alone. (obviously). I'd imagine that these are supporting warning signs for a manager/coworker, spouse to use to determine if they should call authorities in regards to a person that is making threats. Besides for the sake of the 40+ innocent people killed/wounded, wouldn't it have been great if someone called in about the pansy kid who went to Sandy Hook, or the POS that went into the movie theater? No gun run, no ammo run, no threat to gun ownership for responsible people.
Exotic weapons - owning a rare gun is not exotic. Owning brass knuckles, knives with blood grooves, for non-collector/non martial arts purposes is how I interpret that question. Subscribing to mercenary magazines is just that - survivalist type reading. I interpret those questions as - is it apparent that the individual spends a significant amount of time fantasizing about using weapons to meet a goal - (the only goal they may ever admit to is of course self defense).Last edited by Remus; 05-11-2014, 10:32 PM.Comment

1. Guilty if by exotic, it means semiauto replica of military rifles.1. Owning several weapons, especially exotic weapons.
2. Retaining a large supply of ammunition
3. Frequently talking of weapons.
4. Developing skills with different weapons
5. Frequent trips to gun shops
6. Dressing in fatigues or other military clothing
7. Subscribing to mercenary gun magazines
2. Guilty
3. Frequently as in talking to everyone in general about weapons? or talking by posting to calgunners and other gun forums as well as talking to people at the LGS?
4. Guilty
5. Frequent trips as in once a week? or several times a week?
6. Not guilty
7. Not guiltyThey who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Guilty of 1-5
I've been to a lot of work required workshops on getting along with difficult people, sexual harrassment, transgender awareness, yada, yada, yada.
I enter them all knowing that the person presenting the class and getting paid for it is a complete and utter moron.
Anybody who proclaims to be an expert on the subject is just anonther moron who couldn't figure out how to make use of their advanced degree in basketweaving.Comment

Guilty on all counts!
1. Owning several weapons, especially exotic weapons.
2. Retaining a large supply of ammunition
3. Frequently talking of weapons.
4. Developing skills with different weapons
5. Frequent trips to gun shops
6. Dressing in fatigues or other military clothing
7. Subscribing to mercenary gun magazines
1. ~26 guns and counting, most exotic is probably a Vepr 12, Izzy Hbar FAL, and a 19th century caplock
2. ~30k and counting
3. Frequent is an understatement
4. Of course! You need to be proficient to be safe.
5. I'm within 7 miles of Bass Pro, Ammo Bros, Turners, Ten x, Bullet Barn...
6. I had to wear the Navy's Khakis and Dress Blues in a Merchant Marine Academy
7. Guns and Ammo? CRPA?If you need help with any stragglers, call a friend, because it's likely that they have a gun. America in particular have done exceptionally well taking care of the problem, as there are 1.12 guns for every 1 American citizen. So throw a rock, you'll probably hit a gun, pick up that gun, then shoot a zombie.Comment

1. Owning several weapons, especially exotic weapons.
I'm not sure what their definition of an "exotic" weapon is, but I do own quite a few. So YES.
2. Retaining a large supply of ammunition
What is their definition of a "large supply" of ammunition? My "stockpile" pales in comparison to many here on Calguns, though one-tenth of what I have would still be considered a dangerous stockpile by any journalist out there. YES
3. Frequently talking of weapons.
Guilty as charged.
4. Developing skills with different weapons
Guilty as charged.
5. Frequent trips to gun shops
If online gun/ammo/gear sites count, then YES.
6. Dressing in fatigues or other military clothing
Nope. Based on the way I dress you'd probably never guess I'm a gun owner and NRA member.
7. Subscribing to mercenary gun magazines
Nope.
So, according to their criteria and definitions I'm probably high-risk, along with most other Calgunners.Last edited by jdouglas; 05-12-2014, 11:05 AM.WARNING: THE ABOVE POST MAY CONTAIN EXCESSIVE USE OF SARCASM.

Just a questions, but what is a Mercenary Gun Magazine? Like Soldier of Fortune? Do people still read that? I just remember seeing it in the movie Tremors II."Far and away the best prize life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." - Theodore Roosevelt

Let me turn this around.
Marxist fascination?
1. Owning several original pieces of art, especially abstract art.
2. Retaining only what's immediately needed.
3. Frequently talking of other people's habits.
4. Developing skills with deflecting opposing arguments via accusations of racism.
5. Frequent trips to farmer's markets
6. Dressing in plain or other non functional clothing
7. Subscribing to KPBS or NPR
8. Frequent discussion of further developing public transportation, especially trains.Comment
