W296, H110 (pretty much the same stuff), and Alliant 2400 in lighter loads work great for this effect.

I heard Blue Dot also works well, but hevn't loaded up cases to try it.

I miss having fun with mine. Cracked the firing pin and it punctures primers. Gotta fix that..

The fireball is quite impressive even in sunlight. It just happens so fast that it is hard to see. I have not shot my 460 Mag in total darkness, but once the sun starts to go over the hills, the fireball is even better.

My 460 is a highly specialized tool that gets a very important and specific job done better than any other pistol........... Ahhh, heck, who am I fooling? I wanted a revolver and I thought the Smith 500 was bad ***. I wanted something a bit more practical that would be easy to get bullets for. It is just a range toy, yes, a TOY!!!

It is surprising what a 300 grain bullet will do to steel at 2,000 fps with 41.0 grains of 296 under it, at a distance of 100 yards. The 30-30 bullets being flung at a steel plate pig, at a lever action match, were just leaving little marks on the plate. Most of it was just damaged paint. Many people including me, use lighter loads as well. I thought the plate was AR500 steel. I let a hot one go from the 460. It really moved that plate compared to the 30-30 rifles. When I got back to the targets, I saw a 1/4" deep dent that was just under half an inch in diameter, in a perfect circle. Oops The other plates are chewed up as well, but I wasn't trying to damage the steel.

My 9mm ammo comes out to a 125 power factor. It is light and is just for local, non sanctioned, matches. That 460 ammo is a 600 power factor. Yep, I think it would qualify for major PF. I saw a video of a guy use a 500 mag to shoot a stage. That is a handful. Some guys will push a 400-500 grain bullet from a 460 and I recall hearing that you can push a 700 grain bullet with the 500. That thing is a monster.

Casting booilts is fun and is a great way to feed the big revolvers. A gas check and powder coating would be a good combo for some warm to hot loads.
