Good Gun Shops in the Bay

Buddy looking to get his first shotty in south Bay Area. Can someone pass along a list of shops he should go to?

Shotguns? Coyote Valley specializes in shotguns, you can also rent them and try them out on their on-site range. The only thing is though, those shotguns are clay/bird shooting ones, not the tactical zombie slaying mall ninja types.

Ask him not to buy a tactical shotgun if this is his first. He'll regret it later because many ranges in the Bay area won't let you use it to shoot clay target sports like Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay and 5-stand etc. It'll end up collecting dust in a closet somewhere.

Annies guns (formerly Irvington arms) is a great spot

What? Targetmaster's shotgun variety sucks balls. Their prices might be ok, but other than a handful of benelli "M" models, it's mostly just the typical "tactical" stuff that every other shop has. It's honestly not much better than Big 5 sporting goods with that piddly rack of long guns on the floor over by the 25 yard bay.

Reed's actually has a decent selection, BAGV's prices are indeed insane, Eddy's didn't have a lot of inventory for shotguns last time I was in there, but they did have a decent variety and prices.

The OP needs to find out what his "buddy" actually wants a shotgun for, and how much he's looking to spend.

I did a gun transfer at Irvington arms.. it sucked. Unless it has changed, I would look elsewhere. Good luck.

It's changed ownership and names(Annie's Guns now), but the overall feel and lack of inventory doesn't appear to have changed(at least not the last time I stopped by there for the anniversary thing).

Eddy's shooting sports is an example of a great hole in the wall place, packed top to bottom with good stuff(there's seriously barely room to walk in there sometimes). Irvington/Annies... not so much.

This is his house gun. I've already told him to get a two barrel combo.

lol, this really is a buddy. I've taken him clay shooting, and he's shot an 870 and a 1100, and handled a number of others. He decided he wanted a Mossberg 500 because of the tang safety. I actually wanted to steer him to a handgun, but he wanted a shotty. Yes, this is his first gun.

Incidentally, does anyone know if there are "tacticool" shotgun matches in the Bay he can go and practice in? Basically IDPA/USPSA but with shotty only.

Got my mossberg 500 persuader from Big 5 for $325 out the door. It goes on sale periodically for $299. The marketplace here might be a good option as well.

Why? I thought 500 barrels don't go on 590, and I don't see any 28" 590 barrels, so my buddy would be locked out of trap/skeet ranges. Also, The 590 is 20", which when added to the extra capacity, makes for a front heavy gun. My buddy is small in stature.
