Who has brought a gun safe upstairs?

I have a 450lb Cannon gun safe sitting in my garage. I need to bring it up my porch stairs and to the second story of my town house. Any recommendations besides one of those refrigerator dolly's and strong friends?

I used a fridge dolly to get one in my 2nd floor apartment. By myself.

    I would NOT recommend that.

There are stair climbing dollys, but I don't know who has them. Try calling a local safe retailer.

Lower the safe horizontally onto the floor. Remove the door (assuming it can be removed...). Use a small stool and some towels to level and balance the door once open.

That will divide the weight load of your safe into 1/3 and 2/3 total weight.

Two relatively fit people can manage that up in two trips with an appliance dolly. Just take your time...

How heavy was yours? I brought my buddies up to his apartment but I think it was only about 300lbs.

A guy had one of those stair climbing dolly's for sale, it was $800 but that's more than I paid for the safe

Call some of the local moving van - rental places ( e.g U Haul , US Rentals etc. ) and ask if they have a stair climber. OR get two strong friends to help you ...two pulling and the guy you like the least pushing up from the bottom.

Rent the dolly. Many cheaper safes don't have removable doors.

drive in front of your local home depot honk your horn a few times and your problems are answered....na not a good idea.

I had to move my 500# safe upstairs recently. I removed the door which took about 1/3 the weight off. Still was a pain for me and my buddy using a fridge dolly.

That's what I did, and it was a 700LB safe IIRC...

I have three safes and have moved two of them upstairs twice, solo. Not the best idea in the world, but if you a big enough and understand that leverage is your friend then it can be done.

I paid a guy to do it both times I had mine moved. once when it came in and once when it went out to the garage.

The first time it was the company I bought the safe from. The driver that delivered it had some kind of electrified gizmo to get it up the stairs and into the house.

When it got moved to the garage I was not present, but was told it was a couple guys with a refrigerator dolly.

How about throwing down some plywood, dosen't have to be any thing more than 3/8" thick. Try a creeper (like car mechanics use) longer wheelbase and I would think easier to control.
