Glock 17 ejection problem

My glock 17 is ejecting straight back at me and every once in a while the slide will catch the brass before it is ejected. Some have told me to make my reloads hotter but is their any other ways to stop these ejection problems?

Loading a little hotter for my G34 worked for me. Some change out the ejector from the 336 to the 30274. Pretty common complaint.

There could be a few causes. For me, (also a glock 17) it turned out to be limp-wristing.

Not the most man-card friendly concept, yet not so serious to have my man card taken away...

The important thing was as soon as I realized that (after reading other forum threads suggesting that possibility, I refreshed myself on how to hold the weapon while firing and I have had no problems whatever since then - fired close to three hundred rounds down range since the adjusted grip and stance.

I'm gonna take a stab at the diagnosis and say your problem is because of limpwristing.

If you disagree then use factory ammo and see if it still does it.

Is this a brand new G17?

If so, the extractor should be the new one but definitely check it. Again if it's new you might run some hotter loads at least for awhile.

And limp wristing is a common cause of brass-to-the-face syndrom. A google search for 'BTTF' or 'brass to the face' will give you lots additional info.

Shoot factory ammo to see if you have the same issue. If not, you have your answer.

There are a number of ways to address this depending on your preferences.

1. make sure you have the latest extractor and ejector
2. load heavier bullets...seems to occur less with 124gr than 115gr
3. install an Apex Tactical Specialties Extractor
4. get a Gen2 G17

I was shooting a minor load, failed to say its an open gun, so major load or close to major loads did the trick.

Just replaced my 336 ejector with the 30274 ejector from the new gen 4's last night. I'm going to the range today to test it out. If that doesnt stop the Brass to the Face issue I was having with my brand new gen 3 G19 then I have a Lone wolf Extractor waiting at home that I will test in addition to the new ejector. THis is a joke to have to deal with on a new gun. That brass hurts when they slam in to your forehead.

edit: I used freedom munitions reloads, new, Winchester White box and one other factory ammo. All had issues. I made sure to change grip and not limpwrist, yet the brass was going EVERYWHERE. No rhyme of reason to it, It was like a rainbird sprinkler.

Well shot 250 rounds with factory white box and freedom ammunition reloads and only had two ejections that came close to my head. I could tell my grip was not as steady on those shots therefore I want to do some more testing. The new ejector is definitely helping though. I'll do some more shooting with just to new ejector before I replace the extractor to see if it gets even better. I'm interested to see the ejection pattern when somebody else shoots it.

Open gun with a comp, going to try out my major loads tomorrow to see if that solves the issue
