Shooting Glasses

Was at the range last night and can't say enough how important it is to have the proper eye protection.

I had a .45 casing bounce off the stall divider and wedge itself between my temple and glasses, which was held securely to my face via the ear muffs. Took about 5 seconds before I realized the burning sensation was sinking in.

Small blister is a good gentle reminder on the importance of having proper fitting eyewear.

Still had a good night though!

I've burned my eyelids more than once from hot shells landing in my glasses. That's always a fun story to tell when the scab shows up.

Though I've often wondered if soldiers got eye wounds from eject cases before they issued ess or oakleys to everyone

It was common for me to get pelted with fragments at a local range. Not sure what was up with the backstop.Maybe other people were hitting the hangers & I didn't notice but it stopped when they replaced the backstop with a new one. I had a small piece hit me just below my right eye.

Between cleaning, shooting, and building it seems like guns and glasses are a nesseccary duo. I've worn the same pair not only at the range, but when I clean up afterward. I once had a rag fling in an outward arc across my face splattering solvent on my glasses.

Glad I'd worn them then.

When working on an M70 build, I was doing a demill on the front trunion and used a chisel to hammer off a drilled rivet. The damn thing came off in one hit, bounced off the vice next to it, ricoched upwards, and whacked me right in the glasses. That hit pretty hard.

Yeah...I wear eye glasses and sometimes don't feel the need for additional safety glasses.

When I wear contacts I wear sunglasses which are impact rates. I should still probably pick up some regular safety glasses.

Had a couple different sunglasses scratched by cases hitting the lens. Guy brought a couple of little girls to the range with no eye protection. I was the butt head that told them no eyes, no shooting. Daddy did not understand.

Same thing happened to me. At some point I got cocky and thought "hey my GLASSES are all I need!" so then a 9mm case bounced off the wall, came down behind my glasses and commenced to cook a piece of my cheek before I could put the gun down and get it off my face. A cap would have helped too. But now, I make sure I wear safety glasses over my glasses, or my prescription shooting glasses.

I also saw at a match, a fellow shooter looking at his brand new sunglasses with a small scratch in it from a richochet. Worse case scenario ... it would have hit him in the eye, slightly less worse if he was wearing presciption glasses, it would have scratched his glasses (and glasses are not cheap!)
