Spinner target. Ones you love/hate??

I want to get a few or one that is fairly versatile. Mainly for .22 but also for 5.56 and 7.62 if there is something that will take that abuse. I'd assume that I should get one for .22 and one for higher power stuff?

What are we using?

Most of the Spinners I have ever seen are for .22 ONLY. I have taken a few shots with ARs once the spinners are thrashed and on their last legs and the AR punches nice clean holes through them. If you want to shoot ARs and AKs at targets, I would suggest something made to handle that like this http://www.ar500-targets.com/Product...e=POPPER-LARGE

I love this one.
Not a spinner but it does have springs so you do get motion.
Light enough to carry far away and you can pound it into the ground in most places with a good heavy hammer.

The ones sold by the vendor here are really solid. I think their name is AR500 targets. They go to all the gun shows and their products are very nice.

They will hold up to anything, their video shows them getting hit with FA and I also believe with a .50

I was looking at those, but jezuz hell they are expensive. I can buy 5-10 cheap Amazon ones for the same price or have the kids at a local metalshop make me a bunch for way less.

I have two of the AR500 Targets gongs, an 8" and a graduated set of 6", 5" and 4" gongs. 3/8" AR500 steel is very thick and very hard steel, I have shot them with just about everything in my collection, .30-06, 7.62x54r, .223, lots of pistol calibers and with steel targets, you get what you pay for. Good targets are not cheap, but they do last. With my gongs, I have to buy lots of spare bolts and chain because they get shot and the splatter from hitting the gongs shreds the chains.

The energy and shock generated by the gongs being hit actually stretches the hardened steel bolts mounting them to the chains also. Steel targets require some upkeep, but the new AR-500 Targets designs have eliminated the chains, they now use AR500 steel hanger assemblies that look much more heavy duty. I am buying that $250.00 popper I linked to above, that thing is built like a tank and will take a ton of abuse.

Are you using grade 70 or higher chain and grade 8 bolts? I haven't experienced a single broken bolt or link so far on my setup that utilizes the hardened hardware.

No, I don't think that they have those at Home Depot. Where would one get a hold of such things? Although if a chain takes a direct hit, I would think even the grade 70 chain or above would still break, wouldn't it?

They in fact have both of those grades at Home Depot. The chain is a golden color and they sell it for about $3.50 a foot. The bolts are in the hardware section in the pull out drawers and are also a golden color. Lowes sells the bolts as well and has a better selection, but not the chain unless you want to buy 30 feet of it.

A direct hit won't kill it immediately, but it certainly will hold up to splash. Same with the bolts. For longevity, I find them a necessity.

I have a couple of the tumbling jacks from AR500targets when they were on special. They are the non AR steel as they are for 22lr only. And quite fun. I also picked up 3 of these from Midway http://www.midwayusa.com/product/725...-rimfire-steel and hundreds of hit's without a hitch.
