Is it legal here in California to build? Do I have to have a mag lock on it?

The masterpiece arms clones are relatively inexpensive. Are you just trying to avoid registration? I believe its fine to build a semiauto clone as long as they are not labeled as mac11 or other banned by name model. You won't need a maglock as long as there are no restricted features like threaded barrel. The masterpiece arms clones have threaded barrels but they have muzzle devices permanently welded on defeating the threads thus no longer requiring maglocks.

What if I bought flats that says m11 with cobray logo on it? Would that be illegal to build?

And not really tryin to avoid registration but that's a good idea I guess too, but just want to build one myself just for the challenge of it.

Matter of fact it don't say m11 on it just has cobray logo with the snake on it and safe and fire stamped on it no other markings on it.

Even if it did say M-11 it would need to say Military Armament Corp. Ingram M-11 to be banned. Cobray isn't on any list.

Make sure the Cobray flat is not marked SWD Inc, because then it would be make/model banned. [PC 30510(a)(10)(B) & (b)(3)(B)]
