.30 Cal Ammo / Enblocks / Stipper Question?

Ok Cal Gunners. I have some ammo enblocks and stripper clips that were my dads. He used to shoot an M1 that was his buddy's. He always talked about getting his own but never did (guess cause his buddy let him use his all the time). Can anyone help my with what these are? And the ammo is for an M1 Garand? 30-06 or .308? How do I tell?

Also, I have been looking at getting a Garand or Carbine. I see tons of info online but I am old school and prefer a book that I can touch and read. Anyone have any suggestions on good literature? Websites that are knowledgeable will still help.

    Any help is appreciated.

ammo for most is 30.06, some guns for the navy were converted to .308, as were numerous commercial conversions. A chamber cast would be one way to determine caliber.

Best book...Jerry Kuhnhausen's "Shop Manual"...google. You can also check the general info and available books on Fulton Armory's website, which will link you to Scott Duff's website...tons of info there.

Link you posted doesn't even come close to working.

Stripper clip - hold 5 or 10 rounds of .30 cal ammo by their bases for storage. They can used with a loading guide to fill a detachable magazine, such as the ones used in an M1A rifle

En-bloc - hold 8 (usually) rounds of .30 cal ammo and are how rounds are loaded into an M1 Garand for firing.

Both the above work exactly the same way whether it's .308 or 30.06 ammo.

If you're looking at buying a M1 garand, the cmp is a good place to look.http://www.thecmp.org

I bought mine there last year. Now that they require you to go through your ffl, dupage might be worth checking out, I think it was $675 through them vs $625 for a service grade through the cmp
