    Calguns vs Armslist

Kinda just want to see what people say. I personally use calguns and my buddy uses Armslist. He does however use calguns as well. I checked it out, but it seems too many dealers making sales. I like the simplicity of it, just not enough people I think unless your in Arizona or any free state. California is looking like it's picking up on Armslist. Has anyone else checked this out? If so what's your opinion.

I have used both. Like here if your not in a hurry you can find good deals. Especially on powder.

I have used both and quite honestly I like the people here better. Too many scammers on Armslist and even the legit sellers tend to be flakes. I just had a deal where it took an out of state ffl on armslist 21 days after he cashed my cashiers check to put the rifle in the mail to my ffl. If I hadn't offered him the assistance of his local LEO's I think I would still be waiting.

People here on CalGuns are more accountable overall. Maybe because they can't hide behind distance or maybe just because we tend to be the opposite of the average Californian.

Who knows. But I have good luck here.

Armslist has always had that "Int'l scammer" attitude about it. I'm reluctant to buy much online, other than ammo from known vendors & parts. I've only bought one firearm online & it's a Cabelas exclusive Tikka T3. Worth every dime!!!

Speaking of scammers. Some guy was selling dpms lr308 for 750. I hit him up maybe 2 min after it was posted (hit refresh) and he got back to me maybe 30 min later saying he was in Florida already and he could ship it to an FFL local here. Then his story changed from Florida to Fredricksburg. I called him on his scam after I got his number and reported it to US federal communications and the police. I love it here cause nobody has tried to scam me yet.

I love CGs, I’m on it almost every day and have made a lot of friends here at the local shoots. I think this forum is a great reasorce for a lot of things. However, IMO the classified section on this forum is a joke. I usually peak at it if looking for something and end up saying “WTF ?” when I see the prices listed here. Occasionally there might be a good deal but in my experience I haven’t seen a worse place to buy. I have got some great deals out of the deals and coupons section but the regular classified is a joke IMO. I have only found one “good” deal here and that was a unlisted FAL a BM PMed me about as he knew I was looking. I had already ordered one otherwise I would have bought his.

I use gunbroker when buying something I can’t find locally. If just looking for AR type stuff I wouldn’t bother but if looking for other stuff GB can be great if you are patient. Ex: When I was looking for a Golani they were going for like $1100 on here(asking anyway). I bought one for under $700 on gunbroker that was already californiafied.
                  Haven’t used Armslist.

I would advise a newbee to come here for info not to buy.

I have bought a lot here, and had no issues. But I only buy local and dont like to have stuff shipped. Face to face is best for me and that rules out armslist.

A joke, really? I've sold prolly 40 bricks of .22lr for the same price I paid & gave away maybe 5 for scouts & kids at Christmas. Be respectful & polite, I have a feeling you have not been so.

armslist and western union do not mix. The guy in that thread was stupid.

Armslist + cash and a thorough inspection of the weapon at the sale =

Ill admit, Im in Texas and here you can sell a gun on the spot with no background check, no FFL, no paperwork period. You'd have to be a complete retard to do that, but its legal. Ive sold, bought and traded for guns on armslist and never had an issue. I require all my buyers have concealed handgun licenses so I know they are not felons and I bring 2 copies of a bill of sale, one for other party and one for me.

As long as YOU are smart about how you do business on armslist, you will be fine. Ya theres people who try to lowball you or flake. Its the 2014 and you are finding people on the internet, get used to it lol.

I have had experience on both as a buyer. On Calguns I feel more comfortable sending payment because nobody can really hide by distance if they do wrong. But it has never come to that, everyone I have dealt with was really nice.
On Armslist, my brother bought a rifle and accessories valued at just over $1k. The seller in Denver sent the rifle, and my brother had an arrangement with him to pay half and inspect it at our gun shop before sending the other half of payment. It was as described and we sent the rest 2 days later. The man went out on a limb sending his rifle for half payment and hoping we kept our word. He didn't get all of the money until 5 days after he sent the rifle. We did keep an open line of communication with him so maybe that is why he trusted us. (I wouldn't do what he did, I'm not that trusting especially across state lines.)
I think its hit and miss on Armslist as some times the seller will flake out! I missed one handgun and one rifle like that. They get scared when you tell them shipment is to California.

One thing that bothers me about both sites is methods of payment, if you send money order or wire transfer you can get shafted. At least with PayPal you can dispute it, but they don't like firearm related transactions.

What payment options you guys like to use?
