    Stack On 10 gun cabinet

    Hi all,

I'm considering buying a Stack On 10 gun security cabinet with keys. I know they're not the most " secure" in terms of locking up firearms. I'll be saving up for a better safe in the future.

Question is do they come assembled when you buy them? Or are their models that require you DIY?

Also, I looked at some of them at ( 8 gun) Big-5. I took their Colt. 22 M4 and tried placing inside, the 16" barrel seems like it barley clears the gun rack. ( Rifle not tall enough). Most of my rifles are AK's and M4

Any solutions ? drilling holes lower, or ammo boxes under rifle stocks?

I was looking at this one:

Ive had this issue with a few guns and I just get a wooden dowel and stick it down the barrel long enough to catch the cutout to hold the barrel above. Real simple. You could get foam inserts that have glue and some have velcro/double stick tape and place them on the sides from places like Brownells.

    Just gotta get creative.

      CHeck this link for pics

Here's a project that will allow you to fit more rifles in your stand up gun safe. These sticks allow the rifles to free stand anywhere there is room without tipping over. This keeps your long guns from needing a pre-made slot to rest on, which can also cause wear on your gun's finish...

I use the Barska Quick Access.

The rack for holding your long gun's barrel is simply a piece of foam with a double side tape behind it. You can stick it at a height suitable for your long guns. I use it to hold 2 shotguns without any problems.

Check with the manufacturer of the safe you're about to buy. Chances are that it'll be similar too and what you see on the floor at Home Deport might be a display unit they already stick the rack on.

I had one. To make my AK's reach the top muzzle rack, I had to improvise and add some spacer beneath it.

Also, you may cram 10 rifle in it, provided that they are .22 and no scope. Realistically, you are looking at most 5 rifles. Due to its shadow depth, you need to take off any scope/dot/mag to make them fit.

I have the "8 gun" cabinet from Home Depot and like it. It came assembled, with the exception of the barrel rest (2 pieces) and the shelf which is made of plastic. Both were easy to install.
My Savage Axis w/scope fits in great using the included extender. I do have to set my AR on top of a couple of 10 lb. iron (flat dumbbell type) weights in the bottom for it to reach the rack. Since I have it in a small closet, there are no studs to secure to so I put in some heavy duty drywall anchors/screws. I also put a couple of full ammo cans in it as well but be warned if you don't secure it to the wall, and just have a rifle or two in there when you open it the weight of the door will tip it over.
I wouldn't trust the plastic shelf to anything too heavy, nor do I think that there would be anyway to really fit 8 rifles in it, but for what I have it serves it's purpose well.

I have a StackOn gun cabinet. A decent screwdriver or hammer and definately a crowbar can open it. Good enough to keep little kids out. I use it as a spare ammo storage location now.

I would recommend skipping it and getting a Big Horn ECB19 from Costco on sale for $599 including delivery.

Stack On 10-gun is better than 8-gun (depth). You can find magnetic barrel rests (Tractor Supply) to stick on lower than the standard one for shorter guns.

The shelf is useless for anything heavy (like ammo). You can actually get 10 rifles in the 8-gun version with some careful planning. Even if some have scopes.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll be considering options.

At the moment I'll only need storage for 4 logguns and a pistol.

This guy demonstrates how he can get into cabinet. It's not as easy as I thought it would be! seems kinda difficult.

If anything gets moved against the door, it could jam the mechanism. You will have to bust it open at that point. I had a shotgun fall up against the door, I busted into it in about 3 minutes with a crowbar and screwdriver.

After a tremendous amount of work beating the door back into shape, it's now an ammo cabinet only.

If you put the guns into padded gun socks (bore stores) or soft rifle cases, you can get a bit more than 8-10 in the safe
The shelf and rifle holder are optional to use, the rest of the safe comes complete in one big box.

if the gun does fall against the mechanism, lean the safe back/side to get the gun off the mech.

I had one of these way back when. I did what OP mentioned and set the shorter rifles on top of a stack of boxes of ammo.

I didn't like the foam barrel rests or the plastic ones that come with some of the Stack-On cabinets.

I spent a lil more and got these magnetic holders, rubber lined

best thing is you could adjust it to wherever you want, whenever you want for all barrel lengths.

Caveat: they do take up more room and reduce the capacity of your cabinet though

They have both, one that comes assembled and one for those who like IKEA. I have the former and it's pretty sturdy. I haven't heard great things about the latter. I secured the 10 gun and the smaller handgun/ammo cabinet to studs with lag bolts, and it's pretty solid as a unit. Only way you're getting into it is by tearing off the door or cutting through the side. Not something your average wandering crackhead is going to do in a hurry.

Be aware that anything with a scope and a pistol grip isn't going to fit right, so you'll have to turn it 45 degrees and give up a slot. I'd also suggest extending the shelf with some plywood so that it goes all the way to the back wall, assuming you don't have anything longer than a Garand going in there. M4s aren't tall enough, even with the stock extended, but they can be leaned up against the wall on either side without danger of falling, if you don't want to bother adding any lower rests.
